I had LASIK done in January 2013 and it was completely life changing for me. I also only had one eye done. I can't remember exactly how much it was, but I think it was about $1400. I went in October for my first consultation to make sure I was a candidate and had them give me the exact price for the procedure. Then during open enrollment time I loaded up my FSA with the amount for the surgery and then had the surgery at the very beginning of the new year. If you can use FSA or HSA money for it, you'll save quite a bit on it by not having to pay taxes.
They gave me a valium about 20 minutes before the surgery. It was very easy. I laid down on a table, they clamped open my eye, I stared at a light that was like 2 inches from my eyeball, and 30 seconds later I was done!
I have. Make sure the doc you go to gives you valium. Mine didn't and I was a nervous wreck! The prep takes longer than the lasik itself. 30 secs or less and you are done. The worst part is that you get to smell the laser burning off your eye. It was gross.
Easiest thing to do, life changing results and I would do it again in a hot second. I was practically blind too. Like I couldn't see the giant E that took up the entire eye chart. It was not even a letter blur but a blur. I've never had a problem and I'm 20/15, going on 7 years!

I have panic attacks and tend to pass out w procedures and I was able to make it through ok. They had to take a break after my right eye because I was nervous and kept moving and the machine had to be recalibrated.
The only negative I've had is bad halos w never went away and make driving at night really difficult. But the freedom of not wearing glasses or contacts anymore is so worth it.
That's interesting that it would only be your left eye.
I had LASIK in 2006 and my vision has been great since. I would certainly do it all over again. I slept the afternoon after the procedure and felt fine the next day. It wasn't painful at all. I would recommend trying to do it on a Friday, that way you have the weekend to lay around if you want to.
I made sure to go to a eye center that had advanced technology and I wouldn't advise using a "deal" for LASIK. But that's just my personal opinion. That's one thing I wouldn't want to mess around with by getting a deal and less than stellar results.
Yes. Do it. It's life changing. Anticipating the procedure is way worse than the procedure itself.
I had it done in 2005 and have had great results.
ETA: I didn't take the valium my doctor offered, and it was still NBD. The procedure itself was very fast. I went home, took a nap, and then went out shopping later that day
DO IT!! I had it done back in like 2004 or 2005. I did not take the optional oral painkillers they offered, and I still didn't feel a thing during the procedure because they use strong numbing drops. It lasted like 5 min per eye for me.
In true S&B fashion, I went shopping right afterward with my mom, giant ugly sunglasses and all. I lasted all of 15 minutes before I had to go back to the car and lay down in the back seat. So listen to the doc when he says to go home and sleep it off right afterward. We went home, I took some ibuprofen, slept for 4 ours and woke up to paint my toenails, lol.
I had it done seven years ago and it was a fantastic decision. I'm high anxiety and freaked out a bit during the procedure, despite taking valium, but there was no pain or anything. It was also worth it to not have to deal with contacts and glasses ever again.
DH had lasik. He sees triple out of one eye at night. It has to do with the fact that the cut zone is inside the dilation zone of his pupils. His pupils dilate larger naturally than they do artificially via drops. So when they dilate naturally after the procedure the are that was fixed is not in the correct area. It's complicated. So he has 20/20 vision during the daytime but crappy vision at night due to this. He's adjusted but he hated life for the for the first couple years afterwards. The suck part about the whole thing was that it wasn't like he went to some random doctor. It was the doctor he had been going to since he was a kid.
Had it 10 years ago. I'm high anxiety but it was easy. I took my Valium and was fine. I didn't like the next day so I slept through it and was great after that. I had some halos and stuff for a little while after but they went away. I was very good about putting in hydrating eye drops. Anyway, I'm still 20/15 in both eyes and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Like other posters, it's the best money I've ever spent, absolutely life changing. I was nearsighted to the point that I couldn't see the alarm clock on the nightstand from the bed, -7.25/-7.75, had horrible night vision. The ride home, even with my eyes still itchy and watering, was amazing, I could actually read the road signs. My night vision is SO much better.

Lol, I can't see the giant E with my left eye either. I have perfect vision in my right so I just let it do all the work! H said I should buy a monocle.
bahaha!! Totally bring the monocle back girl! If anyone could rock it, you could! That's hysterical! Also so crazy that it's only one eye!
I totally agree with aqualuv on going to a really good place with the most current technology. I went to several before deciding and it was an easy decision after visiting a few. Going for the 'deal' is definitely a bad idea. I paid a little more and got a lifetime guarantee with it too. Totally worth it

Reasons like this are why I won't do it. I'll stick with my contacts. Most of us in the medical field feel the same way...we all rock glasses and/or contacts. The possibility of something going wrong is too risky.

I have the same problem. Left eye is weaker than the right. DS has the same problem but since we caught it "early" the doctors think we can correct it with patch therapy. I think it's called Amblyopia. For me I've toyed with the idea of just getting one contact for the left eye just so I don't have to wear glasses. And there's no way I'm getting Lasik.
I really want to get it. My brother just got prk and says he can see amazingly. The recovery wasn't great but it was worth it. I am so jealous he can see without glasses and his surgery was free.
I had it done in January of this year. So far- best thing I've ever done. One thing I will advise, is that when you're staring at the light, don't move or blink or anything. The machine will shut off for safety reasons and you will probably end up with a scratch on your cornea. I had an involuntary body twitch when they were doing my left eye- machine shut down and my cornea ended up with a scratch. That fucking scratch was the worst part of recovery. The numbing drops wore off about 30 minutes before I could get to sleep and I had to take 2 shots of tequila to get my ass to relax enough through the pain to fall asleep.
Otherwise, my only advice is to not get it done in the winter. You will have dry eyes for a while and indoor heat made it worse for me.
