Poor boy!! J did this a couple of times during naps. She would scream and cry for 10 seconds and then go back to sleep. It was heartbreaking!! I hope it was just a fluke and doesn't happen again.
Our daughter does this too. I think it's night terrors. When she starts, I usually get up to pee, and if she's still crying I'll go in and get her. 90% of the time she stops by the time I go in.
The other 10% is a train wreck though. Nothing will calm her down for like a half an hour. It's awful.

Is it just like for a few seconds of crazy loud intense crying? Ds went through a phase of doing this a few nights a week when he was probably somewhere around 4-6 months old. It'd be so sudden I'd be up out of bed before I knew what was happening, and he'd already be quiet again. I don't know what it was about but it stopped on its own.
O has night terrors 2-3 times a night. It's horrific to listen to, but it only lasts a few seconds and she doesn't wake herself up. My H has a sleep disorder and epilepsy, so I'm curious if she has something along those lines.

This happened to us a few times as well. DS is 6 months. He will be crying very loudly, but when I go to pick him up his eyes are shut while he is crying and he is sleeping. Once I woke him up by calling his name, he just opened his eyes and smiled at me like he wasn't even crying.
Dd does this sometimes. It's usually just one shriek, whine, or cry, and then silence. I hope it's not nightmares. What do babies have nightmares about anyway?
(bricco) You're probably at the pedi appt right now. Hope it goes well.
This sounds to me like actual pain, or a bad dream. My two dd's (5yrs and 3yrs) both have what I considered to be night terrors where they "wake up" screaming but are not awake. Nothig will call them down and it will go on for 15 mins sometimes. Its like they will talk but don't know what they are saying and can't tell me why they are crying. I have to calmly try to wake them up and once I do that then they can go back to sleep.
