I'm also interested in this. DS1 starts kindergarten in Sept, so we just got him signed up for after school care ($15/day; $35/day on Professional Development days). But, we'll have to put him in camps next summer, which look to be about $150-200/week
eta: he'll be in afterschool care in a private home. Couldn't get a spot in a centre or at the school
After-school care in the NYC public school system is tiered based on income. I can't remember the ranges at all right now because I looked at it last September.
Anyway, overall costs for activities, etc. is way, way less than it was in the nanny and then preschool days. Mommy & me classes end up being more per hour here than the hourly cost of any of DD's current activities (dance, piano & voice), plus I get school for free from 8:15am-4pm, hours that mesh pretty well with my freelance schedule.
Camp is where the big bucks go. I hesitate to mention how much we're spending on camp because I know it's so out of proportion with what camp costs in other parts of the country.
We pay $9/day or $150/month for before school care and $14/day or $179/month for after school care (provided at the school by the town rec department. I think for day soff they have drop in days with field trips that run, maybe, $35/day. We have so far shared those days with two other families (so every third day off we take all three kids), so we haven't done any of them.
Summer camp is actually way more than our daycare was. DD1 is about to finish up 6 weeks (@ 4 days/week) of a camp we won't be sending her back to. That was $1100 for the 6 weeks. Anything else will run us $250+/week. The camp I REALLY want to send her to next summer is $400/week for non-members (we're not...but thinking about it only for this reason).
As for activities. Gymnastics is $150/7 week session per kid. Swimming lessons (6 weeks, semi-private with a friend) are $85. We do swimming year round and gymnastics all year except the summer. DD1 is likely going to switch to tennis lessons this fall. I have not yet priced those out.
Their school tuition this year (pre-K and first grade) is $10,900 and $11,300, respectively. Right now we are not planning on using aftercare (flexible work schedule), but if we decide to that would add $150 per month per kid (through the school). We pay registration fees that seem to vary from $75-150 for each of them to play 2-3 sports a year. They each do a weekly or biweekly class as well (swimming, tae kwon do, piano) at a cost of ~$50-100 a month. Summer camps this summer ran us an average of $500 a month per kid. So I would say for each of our older kids we spend roughly:
$1200-1500 a year for activities $1500 for summer camps $1350 for after school care (if needed) $11,000 for school tuition
So around $15,000 a kid, but $11,000 of that is because we use private school. I am obviously not counting clothes, school supplies, sports equipment, occasional babysitters, etc.
$5600/yr discount tuition (multiple kids, in-parish) $25/mo misc for school (charity, fundraisers, field trips) Before & after school care is $5/hr (if I worked it'd be $15-20/day per kid) $4.25/day for school lunch
Activities: $65/hr private music lessons $100/per season (3 seasons) for school sports Extra: $100/wk on tutor
Outside of school year & non-school sports: $150 YMCA camp (1 wk in Wyoming) $50/mo for group tennis lessons $50-120/mo swim lessons (depends where & if group or private) $150-500/wk misc other summer camps if we do them
Here school doesn't start until 9am so they have before and after school care available. $30 a day for both sessions for first child and $27 for siblings. Will be $421 a week (or probably a little less since they won't need to stay after school on Fridays) for me but it's much less than what I pay now so that will be nice.
Also kindergarten is not a full day -ugh! so you have to pay for enrichment for the other half which is $2710 a year. I will probably look into day cares too to compare prices but I think the school district will be cheaper and they won't have to be transported.
Not sure what activities they will be in but I'm betting soccer, dance, stuff like that which will probably negate the money I am saving by not having a nanny anymore lol!
Currently DD1: Before and after care through the Y: $249 a month for five days Dance: $48/month - 10 months (plus costume and recital tickets- min $200) Fall/Spring Soccer - $120 ($60 each season) Gymnastics: $200/10 wks sessions - we did 3 sessions last year Y Swim Lessons: $75-80 10wk sessions - we did 3 sessions this year Summer Camp - 10 wks $230/wk plus $30 weekly bus fee (takes kids to and from camp site)
This is in Central NJ
DD2 does dance through daycare @ $100 for 10 wk sessions as well as Spring/Fall Soccer (same as DD1) and she is in swim lessons too.
Swim lessons, gymnastics and soccer are all on the weekend
After school care: $260 per month Summer care: $150 per week There are also school holidays that have to be covered but I don't know the numbers offhand.
Activities: Fall soccer & flag football: $300 Spring baseball & flag football: $330 Year round cub scouts: $300 (estimated because I have never added it all up)
This isn't meant to come off rudely but I think it would be best if you looked it up for your area as it can vary greatly!
Go to your school districts page and you should be able to find some sort of information on before/after school care and prices.
Then go to your city's park and rec website and look up how much a season of soccer, t-ball, etc... costs.
You could check out a local dance studio or gymnastics place and see how much a year of lessons costs.
I live 15 minutes from where I teach and yet the prices for school-age care and activities are VERY different so if you really want to get a good understanding for your area spend 20 minutes and you should be able to find most online.
It's $400/month for before and aftercare per month. $4000/year.
That's all I got. She wants to do dance, swimming, and I have to register her for Hebrew school. No clue what these will cost.
The camp she will be going to next year is run by the town and should be around $2000 for the summer with before and after care, 2 extra weeks to bridge to school in Sept, swim lessons and lunch. She's going there for a few years at least. "Real" day camps average 4-6k for the summer, but the town camp is perfectly fine.
$320 Before/after school care during school year $150 avg per month for enrichment programs like drama, sports, music, art (during after school care before we pick them up) $20 Zumba classes one a week
This year the boys will also start golf lessons which will be $$. I hate over scheduling so we will see if we need to drop something.
Summer - summer camp which can be up to $300/week! Damn!
We are in MCOL. My DD is 6 and going into 1st grade. For kinder we wanted all day so she went to a private Christian school that was $500/month. Their start time was perfect so we only needed after school care which was $150/month. For the summer she has been at a camp at the same place which is $150/week. We just bought a house and about to move to a new school district. She will go to public school. Because of the start time we signed her up for before and after care (even though we really only need like 30 min before). It is $330/month. I looked up summer camp prices and looks like about $180/week in our new area. One other thing I will mention about school age. They get A LOT of days off... Christmas break, spring break, snow days, teacher in-service days, etc. my DH and I are lucky to have some flexibility to work from home to cover those. For activities I would say average is $75-$100/month. We try to only have 1 thing going on at a time.

Before school care is free through the school After school care is $5.50 a day Activities--soccer cost $60, plus cost of new shoes, swim lessons are $50, basketball will be $50 Daycare on snow days and school vacation days

This is basically the equivalent of saying daycare costs vary greatly, so check your area. Yeah, that's a given and really not helpful.
I think what @starry was getting at is that there are things that she may not be thinking about for down the road and wanted to get a better grasp on what others do...which considering her kid isn't even 2 (from what I recall) this is obviously far down the road. This post has been interesting especially when it comes to activities.
My son's only going into K, but we started using the public school for him at age 3 (public montessori, goes from PreK3-grade 5).
Our school has before/after care on site. It's $300 a month for one child. Additional children are $150. The cost is slightly less if you only use before or only use after care. Both my boys will be attending this year using before/after care.
The before/after is provided by the local YMCA. The cost also includes care on scheduled days off (in service days, spring break).
I think our provider is very affordable for that.
We were also able to find a really affordable summer camp that DS loves and is right by the house. The camp is $400 for six weeks. We also use befor/after care for that at $45 a week. I know some of my friends are spending a fortune for camps this summer, so I feel pretty fortunate on that front.

We spend a lot on activities... More than we should probably, but we can afford it and the kids like it, so whatever... (keep in mind, this is for 3 kids, 2 in 1st grade and one in full time PK3 8:30-2pm M-F).
Nanny to take care of all 3 girls 7-9am & 2-7pm: ~$2500 with taxes Music Lessons: $600 per month Gymnastics: $740 per month Other Activities (ballet, swim, art): $520
Summer Camp: $2666 per month for everyone (the nanny comes in the afternoons too)
Not only is the post scaring me in regards to cost but all the logistics of getting them into before and after care, activities, coverage in the summer. The list seems endless.

It makes me tired...................
This is where I am. I'm thankful to be working the hours I do so that I'll at least be around during the day to shuttle all 3 kids back and forth BUT I don't really want to stay in my current position forever. This means that I'll need to go back to working FT at some point. I honestly don't know how we'll manage it . I try to tell DH about this anytime he mentions the possibility of a 4th child...
We don't have daycare costs but activities do add up for multiple children.
Karate for two kids: $165/month
Piano lessons for one kid: ~100/month
Little Gym for two kids: ~80/month
Music class for two kids: ~65/month
Tennis for two kids: ~50/month
Swimming for two kids: ~25/month
We've been doing camp through our town's rec dept so that's pretty cheap. I think it was 360 for 6 weeks for Ryan and 240 for Ben. You provide the food.

I just got a notice in the mail about aftercare at A's new school. They charge $180 a week for care until 6:30 5xs a week. They have occasional care and other options that cost less.
edited because I mistyped. The price is per month, not per week which makes it a great deal.
