Open cup for Violet, but we never would have made the switch if our speech therapist didn't push us to. We've even moved away from those training cups and she is using a normal cup now.

She can, but because she carries her drink around constantly, we give her a big ol' waterbottle.
Edie (who will be 4 in September) still doesn't like using one. We're working on it. We didn't teach her to do it and they just did it at school. Dixie cups of water. Her teacher said she CAN do it better than the other kids (who are younger), so I'm not concerned.

No. It was on my to do list this summer but I don't know if I will get around to it. She just mastered the normal cup with straw and lid at restaurants a few months ago.

Yes. My mom practiced wit her when she used to baby sit her once a week. I had no plans to rush the issue. I only let her have water out of open cups because she is still really clumsy/sloppy with carrying it around.
He does sometimes. It normally ends up being a mess. I would not stress this. I never thought twice about utensils and one day he just did it. I figure the same will go with this.
He really likes to, but if I don't watch him, he will shake it or tip it when he is not drinking. He likes water bottles too, and if I'm drinking from one, he has to have some. He thinks he's big stuff.
We literally JUST learned to use a straw 2 weeks ago. The straw was the hardest for him for whatever reason!!

We only use open cups now. She was chewing through the straws on the straw cups. We had to toss a few and had one left after we moved that we used for yogurt drinks, but she got through the last one two days ago.
All real cups all the time now. She even refuses the cups with handles and wants a glass like us. We have short glasses for her and we don't fill them much. I had not planned on doing this, it just happened.
Also - I don't always use the cup. If I'm feeling lazy or don't want to watch him like a hawk, I will still put it in a sippy, or this other cup type thing that my MIL got him that won't spill.
We use the straw cup. He will drink from my water glass if I assist. I don't trust him just to hand him a cup of water. We have tried before and it goes everywhere.
He started with an open cup really early. Our housemates at the time were very anti-sippy, so I just hopped on that bandwagon. (In retrospect I think being anti-sippy is totally weird, but the end result worked for us). At home it's all open cup all the time, but I send a water bottle with a sports cap to daycare.
He can, but not alone. It would be everywhere, not to mention he'd surely knock it over. We use the cups that look like a travel coffee cup. I tossed all of his "sippy" cups a while ago because of him just sitting there chewing on it. Same with straw cups.
L has an open cup of milk with his dinner and they use regular cups at daycare, but on the weekends I give him a cup w a lid a straw because he likes to carry everything around with him (I think he'll be a hoarder one day) and it would spill all over
We give him a sippy cup, but sometimes he steals whatever we're drinking, so he can drink from a cup, but it's messy and he's very prone to dumping it just to see what will happen.
lol, I don't know! I thought I should be moving on from it now. If not, I am okay using straw cups forever. I mean, I still like to drink from a straw. lol
We drink from straws daily here! I really think this is one of those things that will just happen? I think it's smart to offer a regular cup at the table to encourage it but I am in no rush.
He is totally capable of using an open cup, but he purposefully makes a mess with them and likes to dunk things in them or pour his liquid into my wine glass or coffee which I hate. We tend to just fill his thermos bottle up for him and he carries that around. I do like to give him an open cup for dinner so he can practice being civilized

I'm scared that if I don't have water available to her 100% of the time, she won't drink enough!! Edie can get her own drinks but Adeline hasn't mastered opening the fridge.
