BF's nieces keep calling him Felicia and he couldn't figure it out. I really should have just googled. It's the first thing that the googlemeister spits out.
I'm actually surprised he didn't know it. Friday must be the one Ice Cube movie that he hasn't seen yet.

I learned Bye Felicia was from Friday the movie but WHY did it become so popular now? Is it cuz of Rupaul?
OH and Chris Rock taught me there's a difference between RICH and WEALTHY. Oprah's RICH -- Steve Jobs WEALTHY and no white person in the room would trade places with Chris.

Oh I have one. "Bay." Possibly spelled "bey."
My 21-year-old SIL is a summer camp counselor for high schoolers and they say this. It's an adjective, and it's a good thing. I think it's an acronym, with the b standing for "best." But I have no idea what the rest is, and neither does she.

I actually saw something online somewhere about Bey means one thing thats kind of bad in one languge but its being used as something else here as slang. HELPFUL I know!!!
I mainly just wanted to post in this thread so I could find it again. I feel so much more hip just reading it.

According to BF's a-hole nieces (ages 10 and 15), "bey" is the female form of "brah" (dude/bro).
They seem to be up on their current slang, so I guess it's right. I dunno.
Ok, I looked up "ham sammich" in the urban dictionary. Curiosity got the best of me. Yikes. Right beside it was an ad for a "I pooped today!" t-shirt. Weird.
Also, I see "please to explain" a lot on this board. What's the backstory?
This is an old nest ism. Was it from kenk?
I thought it was sort of a generic play on people who don't speak English as a first language, and the translation for "please explain" is usually "Please to explain it." As in, I'm so lost, it's like I don't even speak the same language as you. I had definitely heard it before kenk and the nest days. Hrparker used it a lot, though, and its cousin "please to be seeing the following post."
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
I'm so amused that Bye Felicia is entering the mainstream lexicon, because I've been saying it to dismiss people since that movie first came out. I don't even watch Drag Race or whatever, but I love RuPaul. I can quote Friday start to finish.
Bae likely came from a meme wherein a girl posted a selfie with a caption that said "Bae caught me slippin, goodnight from us" or something similar, as if someone else (her bae, I assume a typo of babe) took the picture while she was sleeping. But there was a mirror behind her, so when she posted the pic everyone could see it was her holding the phone and she was alone. It was hilarious at the time. That is the first I ever saw of it, if it was used before then I am unaware.
I've seen it written like "Lupita tho" in comment sections about Lupita. Or like "new kicks tho" on pictures in Instagram. What the hell does this mean?
Also, i didn't know turn had to involve intoxication. I thought it just meant get wild.
Another thing, the Ying Yang Twins and Lil Jon made the best party music of the early 2000's. I basically stayed in college so I could get low at campus parties.

Yeah, it means though. Like don't worry about it, I have new shoes though

I was actually going to ask about bae. I see it everywhere since I have a teenage daughter and i monitor her social media stuff. I asked her and she said it is the same as babe but where did it come from?! Lol

I use this from time to time here. I first saw it in a few Bloom County comics from the 1980s of all places.
RIP Bloom County, one of the greatest comic strips ever.
In The Breakfast Club, what could Claire apply while holding it in her boobs?
lipstick
Continued...why was I supposed to be impressed with that? Couldn't just about anyone do that with the right bra? Assuming your boobs were like a B or higher?
I mean, I couldn't do it today because a tube of lipstick would get lost in there. But at 17? Sure.

I think it was impressive that she didn't end up shoving up her nose instead.
S/o The Breakfast Club, I know Ally Sheedy was everywhere in the 80s but I still didn't figure out that she was Jennifer in Wargames until just a few years ago.
