On Monday morning I noticed that his face was really red, almost like he was sunburned. An hour later his entire face was as bright red as a boiled lobster and he has a rash that covered his neck, back, face, and chest.
He is prone to allergic reactions so we went to the oncologist on Monday afternoon and they immediately stopped the chemotherapy medications and put him on Benadryl.
Today, the rash has spread from his scalp to his ankles. It looks soooo bad. I just know they are going to put him on Prednisone and I hate it when he has to take that. It seriously makes him ragey and pissy about everything. I feel like I have to walk on eggshells around him and I know it's not him, it's the medication, but of course I have a billion and one things to do this weekend. DD's wedding shower is on Sunday. I can handle him not being able to help me out, I just know he'll end up blowing his top over something. I know he can't help it but it doesn't lessen the tension.
Hes going back to the doctor tomorrow, they'll decide if he can go back on the chemo meds only after the rash clears up and that could be as long as two weeks. This is the worst break out he has ever had.
I'm so sorry His. Could they give him some Xanax with the prednisone in the short term to chill him out some?
He already takes Xanax for his anxiety.
The Benadryl puts him into panic mode. He doesn't get drowsy from it, he has the complete opposite affect. Frantic, heart racing, restlessness, anxiety...ugh. I hate that he feels that way because there's nothing I can do to make it better.

Eff that. When my husband was on steroids, I was the one taking the xanax! But this is a good suggestion, too, his. Can he have a small dose of it to counteract the mood swings? Also, my husband was really agitated when he was on it, and we found taking it all early in the day (the rx was for am and pm doses; we okayed the change with his doctor) worked fine and helped him sleep better.
I am sorry. Has he tried hydroxzine (sp?)? Benedryl used to make my daughter have terrible restlessness etc with her reactions, so this was a step up but not quite a steroid. The benefit is that is also used off label to treat mild sleep disorders because it can cause drowsiness.
If nothing else, can he stay somewhere the night before the wedding or during the day of while you are handling the details that my cause him to get aggravated?

I don't know if he has tried that but thanks for the suggestion. I 'll tell him about it.
The wedding shower is this weekend (not the wedding) so I'm just hoping he stays out of my way. He can hole up on the other side of the house or go to a friends house for a hew hours because it's going to be a flurry of activity on Saturday and Sunday.

I had to take hydroxyzine when I had a skin issue and that shit would knock me out, but it was great.
Oh no! That sucks so much. I hope they figure out something so he can stay on the oral meds. DH took Afinitor for a few months and it was so nice not to drive him in for infusions.
