So, H thinks Stitchfix is a little ridiculous (paying someone to find clothes for you), so the agreement always was, in my first box where I don't like anything, I stop.
Well, I may have gotten my first box. I need opinions specifically on these jeans. They are $108 which, to me, is steep. But, they are insanely comfortable, and I already paid $20 to have the fix styled, so they are $88 basically out of pocket, or I'm out $20 for this fix.
The one weird thing: There is no fly. So, they are sort of like glorified leggings, except they are actually thick material (my granny panties didn't show a VPL. I actually don't mind it because I could travel in them and be super comfortable, but H thought it was really weird.
I this the only thing you got in your first stitch fix box? Usually there are a few items. I think they look great on you and are pretty versatile. You can wear them with flats or sandals now or with boots in the fall. They would be cute with tunics or with any other kind of top. I'd have a hard time with the price too but I'd say keep...especially since you'll be out the $20.

This was actually my 5th stitchfix box - I've consistently only purchased 1, maybe 2 items from my fixes - I think maybe I'm a little too cheap and need to reset my expectations about how much quality clothes cost. Here was the other stuff in my box:
a $70 necklace that took me 30 minutes to untangle and then stayed untangled for 5 minutes before it was knotted again - easy return decision there. I need to just tell them not to send me jewelry because it all seems very expensive for what it is.
A really cute beige lace top, but at $50 for essentially a very thin t-shirt, i couldn't justify it, and it kind of clung unflatteringly to my mid section - return
A maxi dress - it had spaghetti straps and I tend not to like those because I hate strapless bras. plus, this girl has some love handles, and I feel like it was super obvious with the way the fabric fell. I really liked the print though.
A flowy sleeveless top that maybe would've been cute had it been a size down, but I kept having to pull it up so my bra didn't show. and it was $70.

Yea, from your description I can see why you would return. I have a really hard time paying full price, even for quality clothes. I like to find a deal and get things on sale. This is primarily why I've never tried Stitch Fix.

They are not worth $108 IMO. Yes, they are cute and it sucks to be out $20, but I just couldn't justify the cost.
I'll be honest and say that I'm biased though and pretty anti-stitch fix for the simple fact that *I* could do way better on my own - I realize this isn't true for everyone, but it just pains me to see the prices they are charging for this 'service'. You can get a Nordstrom personal shopper to do the same thing... and once you figure out your style, you don't have to keep spending that amount.
Or just some friends (like me) who will be totally honest and help you figure out what you want. IMO it's so much easier now with all these 'inspiration websites' like instagram, pinterest etc. I don't why you personally started stitch fix (I was just guessing it's because you needed some inspiration), but to me that's what places like S&B are for, and it's free

Thanks for your honesty. The bolded is what I'm struggling with. The reason I started SF is because I tend to gravitate towards the same things over and over again. All of the items that I've kept in my fixes (with the exception of the black V-neck I'm wearing in the photos) I never would've even tried on, so for me it was about stepping outside of my comfort zone.
I haven't been amazed by my fixes either, so I will say overall I feel disappointed with stitch fix, but I'm afraid if I resort to trying to find things on my own, I'll end up with a thousand pieces of solid colors that are all very muted
Maybe I just need to schedule monthly shopping dates with you so you can dress me!

no joke, I basically do this with/for my mom and sister, lol. Like, my sister (who now has a real job, makes a decent amount and rarely spends it on anything) and I have an agreement where if I'm out shopping, I can just buy stuff for her. She'll pay me back or return what she doesn't want. It works well because I love shopping and spending someone else's money, lol.
There was also a free website that I'm trying to remember... someone posted it on S&B a while ago and you get a personal shopper who sends you outfit ideas with links. Ugh it's driving me crazy I can't remember, I'm going to see if I can find it...

Ughhhh. I'm changing my answer I think. I don't actually think $108 is that bad to spend on jeans...but maybe for "normal" jeans that are more jean-ish and less legging-ish.
You should start a seasonal pinterest board. I think I'm pretty good at knowing how to dress my body and I'm pretty adventurous in terms of color and patters, but Pinterest definitely has given me some great ideas or inspiration from within my own closet. I have a board for each season.

What say you? keep or return?
If it doesn't zip like pants or feel like pants, then more than likely they're leggings.
No dude. I can't let you spend $108 on leggings no matter how good your butt looks. Sorry.
I think MrsPotatohead is thinking of Keaton Row. They put together a "look book" of stuff for you then you have the option to order it.
I was disappointed with KR... I got a look book but it was ALL from Nordstrom, which is where I usually shop, and it looked like stuff I'd gravitate toward already.

ilovebed I'm totally someone who spends money on quality clothing and the majority of my jeans are premium denim (although I do pick up a lot on good sales or thrift shopping), BUT those are not jeans. Like @uwhuskygirl said, they're jeggings and they are a trendy color so to me their price-per-wear is a lot lower and you could definitely find something similar for less. Although I think the service has taught her something: she likes colored jeggings! So now she should go out and find some for at least half the cost, if not less.
mkate710 ok, maybe that's it - some of the girls said they liked it a lot, but I never tried it out. at least maybe it would be a good place to start since it's free, you know?
and to anyone out there, yes, I love shopping and giving my honest opinion
MrsPotatohead yep, I'm glad it was free! I may request another just to see if its just a matter of requesting a different stylist.
I think a few mentioned they didn't like theirs, but then some of them had really good ones and were telling people to request that one? I could totally imagine you could try a different person... do you tell them what you want? Can you say "I like neutral colors and no patterns, can you help me change that?" or something similar

Yeah, you can definitely find a other stylist and request certain things. I just felt like the KR stylist didn't really listen. The draw for me with Stitch Fix is that they do listen to my requests and preferences and reference my pinterest board and, for the most part, hit the nail on the head.
