Mentioned this on the other thread, but it was a Harry Connick Jr. fan message board. I just found my old profile, and I joined in 2001.
The board is inactive now, but I'm FB friends with a lot of the other active posters from that site now. Some of them were the first "online" friends I ever met in person.
A baby name board in 2005. I was 19. I wasn't pregnant or even wanting to have a kid anytime soon. I can't remember how I stumbled across it, but I joined because I always liked names. I'm still friendly with a group of the women from that board.

The first board I joined was babynames.com - I have no clue why I joined...... It was fall of 2001 - right around the same time my H and I started dating. They started to charge for memberships and then a group of us spun off and formed our own board. Two more spinoffs later and there's a core of about 15 of us that are really close. We have a Facebook group now.
I was all over the Prodigy message boards, maybe 1995? No clue which topics in particular. From there I moved more to chat rooms. I distinctly remember thinking I was super cool and mature because I went on the "teen" rooms when I was just a pre-teen. Lol
Does anyone remember that chat program where you'd make an avatar, and the chat room would be like a comic book page? I was into that for a while.
Then I found the HereAndNow chat room, which was a website made by college kids living in a house together. So like a more organic Real World. 24/7 cameras, and then each person would do like a "show" where they'd interact directly with the chatters. I still keep in touch with some of that group of chatters.
It was literally a community of diaries. You could follow other people and comment on their entries. They also had Open Diary, the "grown up" version, lol.
I went looking for it a year or two ago and it's now-defunct. That made me sad, because I remembered my user name and my diary was public, so I wanted to read it for lols!
Eventually I moved to LiveJournal, then the Weddingbook/The Nest/Mommyhood forums on Facebook (the "lite" version of the website forums) in early 2008. I lurked a little on the TK/TN forums but was really intimidated, so I stuck to FB, hah. The Knot closed down the FB forums in 2011 (I think), so a bunch of people from there migrated to a new forum on here, then a friend told me about the Thunderdome forum, so I joined there for a minute, and then I came here.
You are welcome for my rambling, fascinating forum history.
alicenelson's thread took me down memory lane. I had to go look if it was still up. Nope. Looks like NotpopularDOTcom has been dead for a couple years now. I posted in the other thread that I thought I was 16 when I joined. I was wrong, I was 17, a few months before my 18th birthday. It's been 12 years!
Isn't that cute. You were 17! and it was 12 year ago! That's a lifetime away!
Yeah, no. I got to the knot in 2002 when I was engaged. It wasn't my first message board. I was on the lonely planet thorntree forums a lot in the late nineties.

if I wasn't on my phone right now, I'd insert the "really?" gif. REALLY.
What I was getting at with my amazement of 12 years is that it feels like yesterday and not over a decade ago.

Cyber kids. Oh god. Then we moved to cyber teens by force. Lol. I was 11-12 when I started posting. I'm still friends with my penpal from that site! She's getting married next week!
TK in either 2009 or 2010, but I almost never posted. This was my second board. I mostly lurk but very rarely post on a board for my genetic disease, and I've lurked on chowhound forever but never plan on posting.
