I would love my house on 10+ mostly flat acres with a nice barn, an indoor and outdoor area and direct access to a national forest for trail riding. If I could get that wthin 30 miles of where I currently live, it would be even better.

I might actually choose the 1920 stone bungalow we rented while living in NJ for 3 years. There are things we'd want to do to it to make it better (central air, fence the yard, downstairs full bath), but overall I adored the charm of it and the picturesque surroundings. I miss the orchard 5 minutes from there
At this point id stay where I am (urbanish Denver only be in a modern house that we designed)....this house is almost perfect (location, size, style). i really want a pool too so this would work. Other option would be on Cali coast between LA & San Fran somewhere.
I would choose a craftsman style new home with 4 bedrooms , an office/den, separate living and dining rooms and a cooks kitchen with the master on the first floor. Two car garage on like 5 acres half cleared half woods. One day... it will happen. Probably after my kids are grown and out of the house lol ( then I probably wouldn't need the 4th bedroom). I would stay where I am in MD. We are close to the beach and close to DC if we desire the city for an weekend.
There is a stone Victorian on a bluff over a beach on the Cape. It has beautiful landscaping already. I want to buy that house and redo it so that it has a fully modernized kitchen for me and a fully modernized electrical system for all of DH's gadgets.
I'd like to live in a neighborhood that looks like this. Small, colorful homes, cool people. I don't know where. Maybe somewhere close to a beach or lake. I have no idea where these homes are irl.

. You want to live in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard

That works perfectly. Good to know! If I get really fancy, I could just summer there.
I really miss being close the ocean and seeing mountains on the west coast, but pretty much anywhere with both beach and mountains would be my dream location. If I had to choose between beach and mountains, I guess it would be to live near the beach, and modern would be my first choice of style.
If we had a pool I might be able to forgive the lack of mountains and the distance to the ocean, but we don't have one, so there is no forgiveness here. Our neighbor put up a fence and we don't even get a glimpse of the lake behind her house anymore, so no water views, just a lot of mosquitoes.
