I have $300 in Amazon gift cards and it's for our bedroom. H is spending more time in bed post treatments and our tube tv has lines going thru it. I was saving for a camera but I think H would appreciate a new tv.
My Samsung I bought in 2008 just had an issue where the color went all weird. It was a $300 fix so I said eff it. I got 5.5 years out of it. It was a 46 inch TV that was in our living room and used daily.
I replaced it with an LG smart TV. I love it so far. The picture is so much sharper than the old TV - of course, it's much newer.
Thanks for all of the info. I had originally planned to order a 42" LG on Monday, but forgot in the busyness of treatment. It was $312. :-( Although after measuring, it may have been too big.

I'd get a Samsung because it would work well with out Samsung bluray player and phones. Not considering that, I actually like Vizio. Have you considered them? I replace my 6th grade tv with a Vizio in 2008 and it still works great other than the volume button on the tv (not remote) sometimes taking a few pushes to actually work.
Edit: it doesn't look like the Vizio is actually cheaper than the ones you posted though
I have heard (three people IRL!) that Samsung HDTVs have had problems with the display going out very soon after the warranty ended and Samsung is basically like, sorry, you're SOL. This has been over two years ago, though. Given that, all other things being equal, I would go for the LG.
This was us, too. It wasn't so much the crappy TV that quit working right after warranty, but the absolutely horrific customer service. To the point where I nearly went out and spent $1500 on a new TV instead of $300 to repair the one I had, I was so opposed to Samsung ever getting another cent out of us. (DH talked me down or I might have done it.) I refuse to buy any of their products, including phones, and share my stories with anyone who cares.
We have multiple Samsungs and have had no problems with any of them. (2 tvs, 2 tablets for the girls, 1 phone for me, DH's and my old phones...) I'd buy them again. That being said, the LG is also a great brand and I'd recommend it as well. Hope that helps.
(I posted just so I could do the HTH thing. You're welcome.)
