Have you looked at non-bridesmaids sites for dresses? The Limited has a nice selection of dresses and they always have sales. Modcloth would be a great site to search by color, as well.
I agree, especially if there are only 2 bridesmaids you could really get dresses of the rack from anywhere
Yep. You can do MUCH better.
Let them pick them out and buy them in the size they want. That way they won't have to be altered.

I'm in Canada so there are fewer options, and I figure we would run into a fit issue ordering online too.
My friend lives out of town and won't be here much before the wedding. So we would pretty much be looking in winter, when there wont really be coral dresses in regular stores.
I answered below above, but I'm not telling my sister I bought them unless I think she's at a point it'll fit. She's very determined to lose weight, and I think she will. If she doesn't, then she'll never know I had them.
Except your mother already knows you have them. Do you really think it won't come out, either innocently or passive-aggressively? I dunno ... this has either "really lucky find" or "disaster" written all over it! I hope it works out for you though!
No my mom won't say anything.
I'm well aware that this will either work or not, as stated in the OP lol.
I appreciate all the comments (really), but the logistical problems are all things I'm aware of.

I am offering unsolicited advice here. I know people enjoy the matchy matchy everyone looks like the Pips to the bride's Gladys Knight, but if you really want your bridesmaids to get a dress that they like that they can afford that they will actually use again, just give them a color and a length and let them pick their own. And I don't mean like "okay, so there's this David's Bridal style that has 3 different top options available in seafoam chiffon, so pick your favorite!" I mean like "Buy something eggplant in color and suitable for evening. Go forth."
I did that, and of all my wedding decisions it's the one I'm the most solid in and proud of 9.5 years later.*
Check out netbride.com, that's how I ordered bridesmaids dresses. I basically told them the color, length and fabric, and they picked whatever style they wanted. They ship to Canada.

*ETA: excepting my choice of groom. LOL!
Unsolicited advice is fine
This was originally my plan, but then a) my mom wants the dresses to be the same colour/fabric. She is helping with cost and this is literally her only request, and b) I mentioned something along these lines to my MOH and she said that she would really prefer it if I gave clear direction so she wasn't stressed about what to look for.
I think it's cute and the right seamstress can work wonders. I've had to alter the shit out of every bridesmaid dress I've ever worn because my ass is three sizes bigger than my waist (this phenomenon does not affect normal dresses nearly as much) and they've all come out looking fine.
This is my friend. Pretty much anything will need to be altered.
What color do you like? Coral? What are the shapes/sizes of your bridesmaids? Do any of them dress modestly or prefer sleeves?
Allow us to provide options. USE THE SERIES OF TUBES TO YOUR ADVANTAGE.
Haha I would love suggestions. It has to be available in Canada. Coral. MOH is about a size 2, with a big bum and she's short. My sister is a 16, more apple shaped.
No sleeves, for my sister preferably something that can be worn with a regular bra. Nothing satin. Nothing long.

You bought a dress that you know won't fit either bridesmaid because a) well, maybe you can take the big one in and b) well, the other one said she's trying to lose weight anyway, so maybe she'll be thin enough for it by then?

The previous responder was right. Oh honey.
Tread very carefully, young grasshopper.
I figure if $80 for both for me can potentially save each of them $150, then it's worth it. If it's a bust, so be it. I can try to sell online.

I like the colour and I love the idea of buying inexpensive, off the rack dresses inside of over priced bridesmaid dresses. These may work or may not but I think you know that. I hope it works for you!

Coralie Beatrix - I'm wearing one of her dresses in a wedding in a few weeks and I am IN LOVE with it. This - but full length
Every pic I've seen of women of every size in these dresses looks fabulous.
If you stick w/the dresses you got, they are cute and I'm sure your wedding party could make them work.

I'm all "yeah, but but but" over here.
But tailoring costs? Plus OMG if your size 16 lady can't trim up enough to fit in to the dress, etc. (What size did you get her, BTW?) You could be setting her up to feel really, really bad that now HER being heavier than YOU expected her to be is now costing somebody ELSE money.

This just rubs me the wrong way.
It's a 14. And pretty much any dress will need tailoring.
As I said a few times earlier, I'm not telling them about the dresses until if/when we need them. If it won't fit her, I'm certainly not going to tell her.
Meggers, this is how people become hoarders. You're behaving like my grandma at a garage sale.
LOL. I don't think the dress is bad, and the color is very pretty, but the chances of it fitting both girls (even with alterations) is slim. Even if it just looks good on one, then your mom's requirement of matching dresses is still out the window.
Oh they'll be sold or donated if they don't work. Along with 50% of the rest of my wardrobe. I'm moving overseas after the wedding, so I need to get rid of all sorts of crap.
Can you possibly call around to other stores to see if they have the sizes you actually need? If you got it at a department store, they may even do it for you and ship them to your local store.
How are you planning on unveiling these dresses to them, as a backup plan? I know your heart is in the right place, but I think you've actually made this more complicated than it needs to be. Not only are you saddled with having to have these dresses in the wrong sizes presented to your maids, fingers crossed that they fit/almost fit and look good, but you've also put this pressure on yourself to keep it a secret if/when/until...
To be honest, even though I've spent money on them, I would prefer if we could find something they both loved that was affordable. That would be ideal. If and when I need to suggest the ones I have, I'll just say I saw some on clearance, we can give them a shot.
Again, this will not happen if the dress will not fit my sister. I'm not a dick.

Can you still return the dresses for a refund?
I get that you want to save them some money, but maybe paying for half of the dresses they do find might be a better approach. OR just having a seamstress make them dresses if you really are finding it difficult to get dresses you like.

I know you're not a dick.
I can understand your reasoning here. I think you jumped on a good deal because you couldn't resist.
How will you know if it will fit your sister unless you have her try it on? I think that's where I'm a little confused.
I hope these (or something else) work out perfectly!
We're very open about weight/sizes etc. She'll let me know whenever she loses weight/drops sizes lol.
If I'm not confident it will fit her, I'll keep my trap shut.
