Has anyone had (or have) a ganglion cyst? Did you see the doctor about it? What did they do for it? I've had one for a while now but it's never bothered me. Yesterday, I noticed that it was bigger than usual and was a bit sore. It looks like it is the size of a marble.
Yes, I have one on my right hand. It appeared after I slipped on the ice and hit my hand on the driveway. I saw the dr for it when I had it x-rayed when it happened 10+ years ago, and they pretty much said to leave it alone unless it was really bothering me.
It doesn't bug me most of the time, but when I play the piano for extended periods of time (like I am accompanying a musical this weekend), it gets sore. I used to get little jolts from it but that hasn't happened for quite awhile.
I did years ago on my wrist. Dr tried a couple of shots for cortisone over a few months and it didn't help. Oddly enough, his next step was smacking it with a book. It hurt really bad but has never resurfaced. He said surgery wasn't an option because it's too hard to remove every piece of it and it'd likely just grow back.
I don't recommend smacking it with a book, unless your Dr recommends or does it :-)
lemons, I got sucked into youtube videos yesterday on getting rid of them. And one was someone smacking it with a book. And the rest were surgeries (very fascinating to watch) to remove them. They were all for much larger cysts than I have, so I didn't think that was the typical treatment.
I will say that hitting it with a book was less painful than the cortisone shots! Mine would get easily irritated because of it's location on my wrist and typing.

I had one between the bones on my left wrist. It would swell everyone couple of months, and my wrist would hurt a lot and I wouldn't be able to bend it.
My options were to have it removed surgically (which could help, or scar tissue could form and cause the same problem) or ignore it. After 5 years of annoyance and pain I had the surgery and it's been fine for the past 10 years.
Mine was really bothering me when I first started back at yoga, but I think that a lot of downward dog had the same effect as the book smacking thing (which DH refused to do to me after seeing the video, lol).

Interesting about yoga helping yours. As I am woefully uncoordinated and suck at the downward dog, I'm not sure this will help me. And I'm not sure I want H hitting me with a book.

I've had this for years, but it's never bothered me. I would notice it one day and then not again for months. I noticed it yesterday when I had a zap of pain and have noticed that my right wrist is sore.
I had one years ago on my wrist, right where the joint is. I did bicep curls and other arm exercises with a heavy weight. It stretched the joints enough that the swelling went back in, or down, or whatever it does. Never came back. Doctor had confirmed that is was a ganglion cyst prior to me getting rid of it.

If mine was that infrequent then I probably wouldn't have gotten surgery. It was really a last resort for me, because mine would hurt for at least a week every couple of months, to the point where I couldn't move my wrist.

I had one and actually did the 'hit it with a book' thing. Mine was small and I was to afraid to use a heavy book. (I had lots of offers from people to hit it for me also )
I had one on my ankle. It would hurt occasionally, but I think between sitting on my ankles all the time and being a klutz in general, I beat it into submission.
I had one of my right wrist. It was painful for years. I ended up going to an Orthopaedic & getting surgery. He says he casts the wist for I think it was 4wks because he's had good success with them not returning. Well he was onto something...mines been gone since & that was 13yrs ago.

My coworker had this done in January and was in a cast for several weeks. I would love to avoid this, since it would restrict my activity a lot.

I don't have them yet. My dad got them on his wrist. The book smacking was his go to. Faster than a trip to the dr. Sometimes he would tape them after to keep the area compressed.
I have, on my wrist. It was painful. I got 3 cortozone shots. That was the only time I have ever had tunnel vision, and almost fainted from a medical procedure. After the shots it has never comeback or been painful.
I had on between my index finger and palm and it hurt like hell. We tried the book smacking and shots but it came back so I had it surgically removed. Mine was about the size a grape.

I had a large one on my right wrist. It would randomly burst and cause major pain. It also prevented me from bending my wrist back. Had it removed back in 2006 and aside from a very small piece of scar tissue I have not had any issues.
Since mine was on top of the wrist bones I had a very short recovery time. Had the surgery on a Friday and was back at work on Thursday. Spent 3 weeks in a brace. I do know that if the cyst gets into the joint or is in a bad location the recovery time can be 2-3 month if they have to cut into the muscles.

I had one at the base of my ring finger. The doctor told me about the "dictionary treatment" but no actual whacking occurred. One day I just realized it was gone. :-D I haven't had one since.

I have one on my wrist. It's been there since 5th grade. When I got pregnant I quit caffeine & it completely went away, as soon as I delivered & started drinking coffee again it came right back. It got a lot bigger when I started working night shift and was slamming coffee, pop & energy drinks. I had it aspirated last month, he numbed it with some lidocaine on top, used a large needle (18G) on a syringe and sucked the fluid out. Quite a bit came out too, he said it was one of the largest, if not the biggest one he'd seen.
