Baby C is just over 6 months now. He has recently stopped sleeping pretty much completely. He screams every time he touches the crib but will fall asleep immediately when you pick him up. He is a cranky zombie all day, and literally falls over on his face and just stays there. I feel like a shell of a person. He is up every 45 minutes IF you can get him to go to sleep at all and I feel like I'd give anything to go back to every 2 hours of waking. He has been in his own room since 2 months, and we were doing a consistent bedtime routine and I would put him down once his eyes seemed heavy to fall asleep on his own. He was generally down by 7 and had gone down to 2 wakeups with a few lucky 1 wakeup night. The 4 month wakeful was awful because he would barely eat during the day and I starting nursing him to sleep because it was the only time I ever got any food into him. Since then we had gone back and forth a bit but we were starting to have a few sweet 1 wakeup nights again. He has never slept with us, but I have been taking the morning nap with him in our bed for the last few months due to sheer desperation.
I am totally at a loss on what to do! I know I need to put him down "awake" but even walking towards the crib cues hysterical screaming. I feel like I am become a bad mom because I am so tired and sick of dealing with him. Any advice (or hair pats) would be super helpful.

If you put him down asleep does he stay asleep? If so, I would do that and worry about drowsy but awake when he is older. I may be in the minority on that opinion though.

Boo I can't get an appointment until monday. Maybe I should run him to a walk in. I don't see or feel anything new on the tooth front, no fever or runny nose.

I am here. Neither of my kids do drowsy but awake well. Bottle and rock to sleep in this house.
If he doesn't have other symptoms & your gut says it's more behavioral than pain/physical, I probably wouldn't take him to urgent care. No sense in exposing him to other sick people & increase chances of him getting something else! (If you think it could be ear infection, then it's worth the risk, IMO.)
At this point, I think you should do what you need to do to get some sleep. Sure, it might start a bad habit, if you continue it for awhile, but I like to say "that's a problem for Future Lilac." You'll be able to handle sleep training better if you're not beyond exhausted to start.

Does he stay asleep if you rock him and then put him down? We didn't do "drowsy but awake" with DS until after 6 months--he wasn't ready. DD was fine to do it earlier.
I'm going through the same thing. DD has a double ear infection. It has been almost one week of staying up until 1-2 am but she will sleep until 9-10 am. I wouldn't even worry about drowsy or awake at this time or other sleep crutches. We are so desperate that we have even driven her around. The other night I pushed her around and around Wal-Mart and bought ALL the junk food. I was so desperate and it was late.

So I think I will just try putting him down totally asleep and pray he stays asleep a bit longer. All the sleep blogs made me think this will ensure he is up all night until he is 7. I feel like this is behavioural rather than physical. H stayed alone with him sunday for a few hours and he cried the whole time and stopped as soon as I walked in the door.
Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone. I will totally join you in the crying corner mekiakoo

@missy1 I totally wandered around costco the other day and bought Popsicles and candy in the desperate hope that he'd nap. Plus if I'm going to be up all night I need some junk lol.

We popped into the clinic and the Dr. said he looked good, no ear infection. We put him doing totally asleep and he's already been up 3 times in about 1.5 hours. I didn't want to CIO, but I am not 100% opposed if that's what it comes to I guess I should get a video monitor then right? My poor exhausted brain finds the whole thing very daunting.

I brought him to sleep with me last night and he was still up most of the night I have read the troublesome tots stuff and feel like we are screwed. Could it be reflux? I have been concerned about taht all alomg but the dr said he doesn't medicate unless they are losing weight. Maybe he will let me try some meds. He hasn't really napped in the carrier since he was tiny but does occasionally fall asleep on walks. He wakes up as soon as I am not moving. Me holding him on his side seems to make a big difference
