My husband and I are going to Lake Tahoe this summer and we always love renting a boat to go out on the water. The only thing I don't love is the $175/hr price tag that comes along with it. I've noticed that there are ads on craigslist where people rent their boats out. Should I trust my gut - is it crazy to do something like this?
The two things I would be worried about are maintenance (the boat won't leave you stranded), and insurance/liability in case of an accident. I'd ask about both of those cases by email and make sure I like the answer. I wouldn't call it crazy at all. How much do you save by renting on craigslist?

It would save almost 50% booking on craigslist, which is what makes me wonder if it's worth a try. Boat rentals in Lake Tahoe hover around the $175/hour range! It kind of makes me sick to think about it, but it's so much fun
I've read about people damaging propellers and having to pay large amounts of money though... I don't really think we'd do that though because we boat there every year and stay out of shallow areas.
It's just the two of us - sometimes I even think about renting a jet ski. It's way cheaper.
