We bought our car at XYZ Audi dealership (eons ago). When we bought it, it had a nice metal dealership tag frame on it and we left it there. We have always had our car serviced at that dealership.
A new Audi dealership opened up closer to us so we had car serviced there. They removed the dealership tag and put on one with their name. Although DH noted that the quality of the tag is not quite as good, we truly don't care. I just kind of think it's weird...and presumptuous.
Yeah. Super presumptuous. I'd be more than a little irritated that they didn't even ask and probably demand my original frame back. I'm not in the business of free advertising. Jerks.
Ok, glad we're not crazy. DH was like I don't care, but I do...b/c they shouldn't have done that. The car was already picked up before he noticed it, I am sure the tag is in the garbage.

I'd write a complaint letter to the dealership. It may seem petty/small to get bent over such a thing, but I don't like people fiddling around with my stuff without express permission.
We bought my car used from a private seller. When we took it to the Volkswagen dealership to get serviced, they put one of their frame things on it. I thought it was weird, but it is still there 4 years later - I am too lazy to take it off.

That happened to my husband once. He seriously wondered the parking lot for half an hour because e couldn't find his car due to the change. He was so mad. They took off his plain holder he bought and put their tacky advertisement on. He was livid.
Very weird. When we bought our car they had the plate frame and a sticker on the back. We kept them on because we liked them and they have free car washes for anyone who buys a car there so I feel like the sticker was validation at the car wash.
We have since moved but our new dealership didnt change the old frame or remove the sticker.

This happened to me. It took me two weeks to notice the change of frame. I thought it was odd but I didn't really care because the dealer who switched the frame gave me a huge discount on my service.

This would piss me off even more. He BOUGHT and PAID for one and they put another one on!!! I would rage. That's stealing.

The dealer I bought my last car at automatically put their dealer tag on the front of the car. My state didn't require front license plates so they unnecessarily drilled into the front bumper of EVERY single car that came on the lot unless you specifically asked them not to. We didn't order a car, just bought it off the lot and didn't notice that it already had the front license plate. That thing was removed immediately and the dealer paid for plugs for the holes. It was better than open holes, but still not the same. After that, the back license plate frames don't bother me anymore. Although I would be pissed if they changed it on me without my permission.

They ended up replacing it. They still do it to everyone. I've noticed most cats of that brand have that dealerships plate holder. They are the only place in the city that does service work.

Here's the thing: most license play holders cover up or obscure part of the license plate--which is against the law (at least here in NJ). I can't tell you how often I can't see the state name or something else written on the plate because of those damn holders. If I was a cop looking for ready tickets to write, if hanger this one gone all day long.
