His mom left when he was a baby and his dad killed himself. He was raised by my grandparents. They did the best they could, but he was sort of on that path from the beginning After his first stint, my uncle tried to help him out - got him a car and helped him find a job. But he was back in prison within a year. It's really very sad.

I have a distant cousin who went to prison for stabbing someone (I think he's out now), and H has a cousin currently serving 15 years, really should be more.

My brother served a year in federal prison for a border crossing / gun incident. He is no longer welcome in Canada. He has managed to turn things around since then.

No. My mother was in Parchman Penitentiary in Mississippi for about six weeks, but I don't count that because she was a Freedom Rider. I'm proud of her time there!
But yes, technically, my mother was in prison, I guess...
My step-dad (former, and now deceased from complications of alcoholism) was in prison for killing a black man who flirted with his first wife. (Yes, the race was relevant because he was white, his wife was white and it was Georgia in the 70s. The guy said something to her so...he killed him in a fit of rage.) He spent less time for that than he did for bigamy, for which he was also jailed. He was a real winner. I assume it was prison rather than the local jail, considering the crime. But maybe it was just the local jail, considering the crime.
One of the girls' bio-dads is in prison for B&E to feed his drug addiction. He's not related but technically he's her dad so, I suppose that counts as currently incarcerated?
