My MBA class elects two class speakers to give the valedictorian speech, and I just found out that the single most annoying and pretentious person in my class was apparently elected one of them. I am so pissed.
I started my morning arguing with the jury duty people. I got a failure to appear notice despite sending in my exemption paperwork.
Their records show I served one say less than I really did, which would mean I was not exempt. She acted like they were doing me a favor when they waived the requirement anyway.
After we got off the phone I found documentation showing I was right and I want to send it over out of spite.
Our temporary driver here wants to move to the Middle East and become a clown.
I had no idea there was such demand for clowns in the Middle East. But hey, follow your dreams, man, follow your dreams.
His wife won't let him b/c she doesn't want to take care of their apartment by herself. Not b/c this idea is crazy, but rather b/c she'd have to stay behind, not being a clown in the middle east.
We are going to our hometown on Saturday afternoon and camping for two nights. I am dreading this. I hate camping. I also hate spending all those hours with people who are racist uneducated bigots (you know, my family) who want to rant about Obama and Obamacare (while being on medicare and drawing social security) and the gayzzzz and probably a good dose of why fracking is awesome. My heart rate is up just thinking about it. I sort of wish they'd say something super duper offensive so I could pull a dramatic "you'll never be around these kids again" exit.
Someone covered my CW's desk in Nicolas Cage pictures last night as a prank. It's really funny but I wish they had chosen a different day because I have to grab her as soon as she comes in and get her fixing some huge mistakes she made on an important client project that is due today. It won't be fun

Only slightly related, but a while back I heard that something like 20% of Philly residents actually show for jury duty. It blew my mind.
Early results are in and origami wins this thread.
I am so glad it's Friday. I so wish I could relax all weekend, but it probably won't work out that way. I'm still hoping this day flies by.
H hurt himself at work yesterday so he came home early. He may be off on workers comp for a while. Please pray for my marriage....and maybe that it's just something a few days rest will take care of so he can go back to work and not drive me crazy daily.

I have a student who did nothing all semester in my online class. Didn't turn anything in, missed quizzes/exams. I reached out to student prior to the withdraw date to see if there was a problem, and was told "I'm busy with work." I asked if I could help, and got nothing in response.
Now, at the end of the semester, student is obviously failing, and asking me to turn everything in late. No. I said unless there was a medical reason or university approved excuse, then no. Today I got an email where student actually said "I'm begging you to pass me."

Second to being in the middle of sex, when the hotel fire alarm/evacuate warning comes on, is being in the shower when the alarm comes on. This just happened. Fortunately, it was a false alarm, but for a moment, I was like am I going of have to go down in my robe.
I'm amused that a allergy nose spray has a somewhat flowery scent. You would think so,Rhine that is used to stop nose running and such, would be as odorless as possible, and certainly not a flowery scent.

What? I am truly out of responses for this child.
This is precisely the type of bullshit that caused my husband to walk away from teaching. Will the administration back you or the student up?

Less crazy, but my clerk is quitting because he feels like he's worked enough for now (2 years at 32 hrs/wk) and wants to take time off and travel. He's 26 and lives with his parents.
It actually works out perfect for us, I had planned on replacing him with a full time/higher level admin and was worried he would be offended by essentially a demotion. And then he was all "soooo what would be a good time for me to leave?" And I'm like "kid, that's kinda up to you, but I appreciate the consideration"

Me. 100% me. My policies are explicitly spelled out. And I did myself a huge favor by reaching out to the student prior to the withdraw date and asking if I could help.
I have never been not supported by my admin when I have failed a student, or taken them to academic dishonesty for plagiarism.

IIOY did your H really butt heads with admin about failing a student? I can't imagine how that conversation would go down. In high school I know it happens all the time, but college?
While we're talking about lost causes, I've failed the same student twice. Same issue both times--turned in no homework and no final paper. I just...I don't know.
ChillyMcFreeze Those students kill me. There's not really much you can do. Please tell me that the student has asked you "Why did I fail?" Because that would be the icing on that cake.

We have moved on from the studding and drywalling portion of the construction to the taping and mudding part. I had no idea mudding involved SO MUCH VACCUMING. My god. It's on for hours at a time.
Part of our programming at work involves a summer camp for kids. I'm taking my admin assistant there on a tour and we're going to picnic outside. Would only be better if beer was allowed. :-p
I jammed my middle finger yesterday pretty good by inadvertently slamming it into the printer. I can't tell people what happened without essentially flipping them off.

At this point all you can do is reiterate what you said earlier. Damn, he's clueless. You did a lot and he ignored your ovatures.

Sheets - one of my sets ripped. In all fairness, its eight years old. Anyway, who wants to suggest sheets? Anyone have bamboo? H is a snob, it's got to be an uber high thread count.

You have no idea. He had multiple students try to pull shit similar to what emilyj describes above but the administration always made clear that he couldn't fail the "customers" (his word, not theirs). Time and again he could not get support from admins when dealing with students who were completely irresponsible and/or incapable of writing a grammatically correct sentence. I honestly thought he was just whinging, but he showed me some of the work (and emails) being produced by these students, and I fully supported his decision to quit.

Almost every house we've looked at so far has outdated avocado stuff - appliances and/or bathrooms. Not that I am expecting HGTV-caliber houses at our price point in this VHCOL area, but man, I can't believe these people lived with avocado shit for all these decades.
I am so annoyed. Today DH went to go pick up my new (to us) car that we're buying from his friend. Friend asks where the rest of the money is. Turns out friend thought he kept telling us one price when in fact he was telling us a (far lower and more wonderful) price for his car; essentially, he claimed he kept saying "thousand" after the number he quoted us instead of "hundred" which DH and I both heard him say NUMEROUS times. He's kinda scatterbrained so I honestly don't believe he was trying to screw us, but of course we have nothing written down because he's a friend. So DH said forget it and now my very first car ever is not a reality.
In a way, it was a blessing in disguise because DH reminded me about the hell that would occur with trying to park TWO cars when we move in with the ILs in Brooklyn after we close on the sale of our apartment in a few weeks. Trying to park a car in Brooklyn shaves years off your life, in case you weren't aware. So when we move back to SI we will look for a car for me but I don't know where to start because I mentioned I'm that idiot female who cares about cupholders and shiny car colors.
