Are you set on the look of square tiles? I think the 13x20 would be better, but I really like the more rectangular ones, so I might go with 12x24 even.
As for prices, don't ask me, I have a hard time paying more than $3/sq foot. I'm cheap, but honestly, I think $4-5/sq foot isn't unreasonable.
I like this look:
We have 12x24 "metro charcoal" ones from Home Depot to install, which are $2/sq ft, but they have various other colors too. The thing is, if you're doing porcelain, I don't know if there is a major quality difference. Maybe someone else here knows.
We also used a honed marble tile in our last house bathroom that I loved, but it's probably too busy and hard to maintain for a kitchen.
Our porcelain tile was just under $5.00 a sq ft.. It is really nice quality, and completely worth it. I do think the place we bought had really good prices, because I have seen the same tile for more.
We looked around a lot to find good selections, good quality and good prices. I couldn't believe how many places carried really cheap quality and the price ranges even for that.
