I've been incredibly depressed (side effect of surgery), they are just trying to find a combo that works. So frustrating to go thru this and not feel like yourself afterwards

It began to make me on the manic side. I discontinued it and got "discontinuation syndrome" and cried for literally 80 hours until I had an emergency script for Paxil called in to take the edge off.
I hope you have a better experience. Good luck dovey.
Those currently on Effexor - what time do you take it? I usually take my AD's at bedtime to avoid side effects, but I find that the Effexor gives me a little burst of energy after I take it! Maybe I should take in the am.
It kept me awake for 72 hours the first time I took it.
First and last.
I was the opposite. I could have slept all the time. (I was under 25 though, so I went off it quickly since it isn't really approved for young adults.)
I couldn't sleep on it and everyone thought I was on drugs because it made my eyes look weird. My pupils were HUGE all the time. Fully dilated, where I looked like an alien.
Has anyone taken Effexor? If so, what are your thoughts? Side effects?
Tia
I've been on it for years. It's a miracle drug. An effing miracle drug. Miracle. Drug. I do not exaggerate. I know, I know, everyone is different and blah blah blah, but I hope I'm able to stay on effexor the rest of my life. When I first started I had wicked nausea for a few days, but that passed and then it was fine. Also, any time the doctor would adjust my dose I'd be nauseous for a day or so, then fine again. Also, longer lasting but still pretty brief in the overall scheme of things, it would also make me sleepy ... like, a three-hour nap in the middle of the day sleepy. I still can nap really easily, any time, any place, but the first month? or so, I really HAD to nap. I could not physically keep my eyes open. But OMG, OMFG, after living with what I now realize was depression since I was a kid, Effexor makes me feel normal.
One other thing: They say it's really dangerous to stop it suddenly and you need to do this under a doctor's supervision. Without realizing it, and during an extremely chaotic period in my life I did stop taking it, without doctor's supervision, and I didn't have crazy withdrawal or anything, but my sleep was impacted like mad. I do not recommend doing this. (I also recommend not having chaos in your life, so there.)
Good luck if Effexor is your AD of choice; that said, if Effexor doesn't work for you, try a different dose, and try different drugs until you find your miracle drug. It's out there, I promise. There are so many drugs that work in so many different ways; that's why I think they're all effing miraculous.

It's crazy how different people react so differently, isn't it? I'm shocked by the "can't sleep" comments. But I was also older when I started it; probably close to 45.
I've said this before ... but after I'd been on it for some weeks? months? I was driving on the highway and literally said out loud (I was alone in the car) "Hmm, so this is what "normal" feels like."

Oh, that's something else I should have mentioned! Dr wrote the original rx for taking it in the am, but I found that made me sleepy all day. But then if I'd take it at bedtime I'd have a hard time waking up in the morning (I was taking a controlled release, I think; I'm actually on a generic now) so I wrangled it that I take it around 3, which gives it time to get into my system before I go to bed but I'm not feeling sleepy all day. I forgot that that was probably the biggest fine-tuning pita of getting on that drug. Taking a drug in the middle of the afternoon when I was working was a major pain, but now that I'm not working it's fine.
I take it in the am. I've tried both am and pm. Honestly it helps me focus. I was originally prescribed it to help with my a.d.d. and anxiety but it worked miracles on my depression. It is also my miracle drug I've never had a AD work until Effexor.
