I keep hoping my ex will act differently than he has in the past, and I keep being disappointed. What is wrong with me? Ugh. I just want to forget about him and not have him be my issue anymore.
I think I'm going back to Toronto for the weekend. Only one exam left before I have all of August off!! Woooot!!.

1) Why in the fuck does my DH open a bottle of water, drink half of it, and then open another bottle? FFS, it's seltzer water, so the old bottle goes flat, and it's annoying!
2) D slept in later than me, to almost 8 am!
3) I'm officially an employee of the NYC Department of Education, and I found out that I will be starting three steps up from the base pay due to my degrees and experience
4) DH and I are going to see Once today on Broadway, and I'm so stupidly EXCITED!

My husband decided he was going to play paintball today. So he set his alarm for 7. And hit the snooze button every ten fucking minutes. Guess who's wide awake right now and guess who's sleeping soundly? Rage....

Dh is still away but we have a birthday party for his mom and aunt at his cousins house later. today. I'm still annoyed that they didn't ask us for dates when they planned a party for his mom. So I'll be hanging with his family all day.

DS has had a fever since last night. He's had strep twice this summer, and coxsackie is going around. Poor kiddo, but I was really hoping to get some stuff done this weekend.
We're at the Magical Kingdom today! When the ticket lady asked if we're celebrating anything today, my sister did her anniversary, my mom and dad's anniversary, and my nephew's first visit. I asked if there was a happily divorced pin and she gave me a "happily ever after" lol.
I tried to get away from the Southern tendency to boil things into submission by sautéing green beans from the garden last night. It went horribly wrong and as Forrest put it, "they taste like the color green." It was pretty terrible.
The guys are gone for the day, and DD is sleeping. The house I'd gloriously quiet. I love these kinds of mornings.
My H is from the deep south and I was *shocked* the first time somebody cooked green beans for a holiday dinner. They could have been baby food! Lol

Try steaming! Salt the water and use a steamer, or a metal colander in a larger pot with the lid on. Let the water boil, add the beans in the colander, cover and let steam for about five minutes. Then serve with some Parmesan sprinkled on them.
Yep. Steaming is my favorite way to do veggies. When DH and I met he refused to eat any non-starchy veggies because his mom overlooked them all. Now he suggests steamed veggies as a side on a regular basis. I'm quite proud that I've converted him.
Theo has started saying "sip" every time he wants what I have, and he'll say it over and over until I give in. Anyway, I was having my coffee this morning and he started with the grabby hands saying "sip? Sip? Sipppp?", so I gave him a tiny taste because I thought he would be like oh that's disgusting, and never ask again. Nope. He was like "mmmmMMMMM". He really enjoyed that fingernail sized sip he had. Fail.
Saute them with a little bacon fat. EVERYONE likes bacon fat.
That's the problem. The other part of the Southern boiling equation is the pork fat. I'm *trying* to get away from it. Everyone's taste buds are revolting from my effort. lol.
I cook corn that way though and will never stop. Sweet corn, a little bacon grease, a lot of salt and pepper. Omg. Soo good.
I put my green beans in the oven! At 400, drizzle with balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper and slice up some mushrooms, bake about 20 mins or so. So good!
We're supposed to get severe storms today, but we had planned to work all day out in the yard. I'm hoping we can at least get something done before they hit.
I don't think I've put on real, actual clothes (that aren't yoga pants or t-shirts) all week minus our dinner date for our anniversary. It's gonna be a sad day when I have to go back to work.

I'm so sick of rain and thunderstorms. Meanwhile H is on liberty this weekend but can't come home. He has a fun weekend planned and I'm stuck at home. Grr.
My BFF is going with me to measure the rooms in the new house so that H and I can start ordering some furniture next week! We're planning to visit the World Market that just opened in NJ a few towns over from the house. Excited to show off the house, and to do a little shopping.

Go half way! I normally lightly steam first (about 3 min in the microwave pampered chef thing or freezer bag) then sauté them. They are still firm but not crisp and don't have that raw taste.

I have a recipe where I salute them in a nonstick pan with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/8 teaspoon pepper for 4-6 minutes. I then add 3 minced garlic cloves, cook for 30 seconds, add 1/4 cup water, cover and cook for 2 minutes. Then remove cover, turn heat to high, and cook until the water evaporates, 3-5 minutes longer. Off heat, I add 1 teaspoon lemon juice and 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley. It is SO GOOD.
I really really need to work today. Instead I slept til noon and I've done nothing productive so far. I have to leave in about 2 hours and will be out a large part of the day tomorrow. It's looking like very little sleep tomorrow night since I have a report due on Monday that still needs quite a bit of work.

ETA: saute, LOL.
Lol. Maybe the veggies will enjoy that show of respect. I'll have to try it sometime.
Driving home today we passed an old mission church and there was a quinceanera about to start. The front door was open and DD saw the girl all dressed up in the narthex. She said "That must be where a princess lives."
Our garage is officially cleaned out! Hooray! I am going to the store and then I will be able to move my car from the street and park it inside the garage. This is a momentous day.
Last week our old top loading washer broke. So we bought a new top loader with no agitator. And the signal for when it's done is like a cute little ring tone.

My kid did awesome in swim class todsy. It's week 5 and it really seemed to click with her today. She was trying to get me to let go of her and swimming underwater and using her arms and legs.
Then while we were showering after class she loudly announced she had to pee so I had to grab our towels and run to a stall soaking wet with shampoo in my eyes...I wished she had just peed in the shower lol.
She also picked up the back of my dress as we were leaving the Y and flashed me to everyone.
She's sleeping at my parents' tonight thank goodness. lol
