I've been chasing a win all year in the 3 hour mountain bike series I've been doing. Today, I finally did it! I only did 2 laps. The fastest woman did 4, and 3 other women did 3 laps. I was a bit bummed because I was only about 4 minutes away from being able to do 3 laps. The first lap I lost time at the start when I got caught in "traffic" and had to stop several times for 10-20 seconds. Then a couple of us ran around/over a copperhead snake near the end of the lap. I lost 30 seconds there to make sure everyone was ok and no one got bit. On the second lap I lost 30 seconds to a slip and nearly taking a dip in the creek. If I hadn't lost a few seconds here and there I would have been able to do the third lap. Oh well! 2 laps and my time was good enough for a win in my division! I'm on the left. My teammate won her division, too. There is one more race in Sept. in the series.
It was good of you to stop & check on everyone dealing with the evil snake. That sounds terrifying. I'm such a wimp when it comes to snakes; it's a good thing I don't live in the south.
The snake wasn't much fun. I don't mind black snakes. One year I ran over/bunny hopped a black snake in 3 races in a row. It was odd. This year it seems like more people in my area have been seeing poisonous snakes on the trail. This is the first one I've seen in quite a while. I rode just to the right of it. One of the other girls said she ran over it. We didn't go back to check on it....
I continue to be impressed by how well you are killing it after your knee surgeries. How is it holding up by the way?
Thanks!
I guess the best thing to say is that the knee has its good days and bad days. Most days it's fine. Occasionally it will hurt for no reason. The ortho said that will be normal, possibly for the rest of my life. Ice it and take NSAIDs when it happens. If it still hurts after a few days or feels "really bad," come in to see him. I can't sit with my legs cross for very long, or it will hurt when I get up.
I don't know that I'll ever really be able to run again. Ya'll know I'm not a big runner, but it's nice to be able to run sometimes in the winter for cross training or if I want to get in a workout outside in the cold and dark after work. I haven't braved trying to trail run since the surgery. Maybe after Cyclocross Nationals.
Thankfully, I'm a cyclist, which is one of the best forms of exercise for bad knees.
