The lightning started about 20 minutes into the swim. They didn't allow a lot of people to start the second loop and then started pulling people out. It's been raining and storming all morning so far. Fun!
Radar looks like it's clearing up. Some people from our club finished the swim and some didn't. Logistically, what happens with the people who don't finish the swim? I hear they are letting everyone get on the bike...?
Everyone was allowed on their bikes. As far as we've heard, they will either use one loop of the swim (everyone finished at least one loop) or they will only count the bike and run. This is really for the purpose of competition/Kona spots. Anyone who finishes will be considered an official Ironman finisher regardless of how much of the swim they did.
I have a question about the course, so there seems to be a huge hill before the 12 mile marker? Im watching five of my friends on the athlete tracker and they all slow wayyyyy e hell down at that point and then again in the second loop.
Meanwhile, so far two are in, one in under 11 (this is his 5th IM), and one under 12 (this is his first!). Im guessing the others are already in, or almost in, but the athlete tracker is behind. Amazing!

Yup! There is a hill that's about a 20% grade for about 200 yards, but it continues uphill, just not as steep.
The times exclude the second loop of the swim and T1, so the overall times are faster than reality, some by as much as an hour.
I'm glad they were able to keep going and still continue the race. That would be so devastating to have to cancel before or mid-race because of weather. Though it seems that would be pretty unlikely for IM? (I hope so!)
I bet it was so fun to follow the action and cheer for your people!
