So for all of my previous 1/2 marathons. I've used Hal Higdon's Intermediate training plan. It's worked well, but I am wondering if I need to switch it up. I can't do much more than 25 mpw.
Anyone have any suggestions for a similar plan that is free and/or cheap?
I haven't used a lot of structured plans lately, but I'm thinking about it.
I noticed Runner's World had a new 1/2 plan in the latest issue, though I haven't looked at it yet.
Also, I've had luck getting ideas just from googling "half marathon plan for 1:45" or whatever your goal is.
You may find some weird plans, but I know you're experienced enough to know if a plan is crap or to just adjust as needed.
Are you thinking Monster Dash again?
Thanks! I might pick up that issue.
Good idea on the googling. I usually modify things slightly anyway. The reason I like the HH plan is the variety of speed training like tempo runs and repeats. I might use it again.
Yep - Monster Dash for now. Probably the Esprit De She in September, too.

I normally just use Google to find something that looks decent and then adjust it to suit my needs. I've never followed something exactly as I found it!

I'm using the FIRST marathon plan (Runner's World always sends e-mails about Run Less, Run Faster). They have a half plan also. It's three runs per week - Track, Tempo and Long. I am loving it. I lift two days/wk and Cross train two days. I'm about halfway in (my long run was 14mi this past weekend) and I'm at about 25mpw.
Still not sure which half. I have some friends running Mankato, but I think I'd rather do Monster Dash. I'd ideally do GraniteMan because it's closer, but it's so early.
Hopefully I will be able to do Esprit de She - Maple Grove too.

I wish Granite Man was later in the season, too. It will still be too hot! It would be a perfect location for me, too. (don't tell anyone I said that in the summer sucks thread )

Okay I just checked this out and I like it! The times it's giving me for the speedwork and tempo based on my goal are a little scary, but this seems really reasonable for mileage.

The paces seemed scary to me at first also, but it really does make you push yourself...in a good way. I would never think I could hit those paces if this plan did tell me I had to It also makes you feel pretty badass when you finish and realize that you just ran that fast!

I've always done Hal Higdon's Intermediate too, but this time I'm following the "Train Like a Mother - Own It" program because I really want to PR. I like that it breaks down one run each week you should move mountains to fit into your schedule, and one you can skip. It has you run 3-4 days per week, and then have another day for an easy run or cross rain.
I'm going to do this one, it's from the August issue if Runners world. I don't know if you can see the pictures in detail, but it will give you a general idea of the plan.
Runnersworld.com has a smart coach that is free on their website. I have used that before. You can tailor it with your times and days you want to do your long runs, etc. GL!
