When I wake up, all the baby-fine strands on my head have joined together in one heavy metal hair band mass. The only thing that I've found that fixes it is a shower and lots of conditioner.
I'd really like to be able to skip a shampoo every now and then, but I can even get a brush all the way through it. And forget about opting to shower at night, it's a disaster in the morning.
Any products that might help detangle and smooth dry hair without completely weighing it down? Or do I need to start sleeping in a shower cap or something? HA.
Have you tried sleeping with your hair up, like in a ponytail or bun? Even if you have to blow dry it straight to get the kink from the holder out the next morning, it is less time than washing and drying.
ETA: I have fine hair, but a decent amount of it and have never had this issue. I wash it 2x/week, 3 max.

I haven't found anything that works. I wet down my hair each morning and then use my normal styling products and blow dry like usual. I figure I'm at least avoiding an additional wash, even if I have to use the blow dryer.
My hair is fine, but I typically don't have problems with that many tangles. My issue is oil...and I have to wash my hair daily or it's so incredibly disgusting. But I'll ditto the advice to put it up in a pony tail to sleep. Also, I think sleeping on a silk pillowcase is supposed to help with bed head, so you may want to try it!
Mine is like yours. It just will not behave if I sleep on it. It becomes flat plus weird.
Lush's dry shampoo helps a bit? I usually don't wash it on Sunday and that gets me through that day (note: I typically throw it in a ponytail afterwards).
I recently got a sample of Bumble & Bumble's Hairdresser's Invisible Oil.
It is the most glorious product I have ever used on my hair. It's magic serum. It's expensive, but if you live near a Sephora, have them make you a sample size container to try at home before you plunk down cash.
Fine hair too. It just never works right if I don't' wash it daily. And even if I can maybe get it to look good, it just FEELS gross by the end of the day.
I have tangly hair too, and The Wet Brush is the most humane brush I've found for it (primarily when my hair is wet and knotty, but also when it is dry)
Do you use leave-in conditioner or another type of serum? My hair is hopeless without after-shower products. I also sleep with it in a ponytail on top of my head, which helps prevent overnight tangles.

I had the problem with knots in my hair. All it took was my hair brushing against my shirt a few times and I would get a huge mat at the nape of my neck. It pissed me off.
I chopped my hair off. It was half way down my back, and is now just below my chin.
That probably isn't helpful. But in the time my hair was long I found nothing useful.

DD has really fine (dry) hair. I've been having good luck with "it's a 10" leave in w/keratin spray after a wash. It is still super smooth the next morning and brushes out no problem. Occasionally, I use Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Moisture spray in it dry to help brush out any knots or fly-aways.
One more tip. I keep a wide toothed comb in my shower, and comb my hair and untangle while I work in my conditioner. It helps enormously, especially in preventing breakage.
I use Klorane nettle shampoo and nettle dry shampoo. Using them means I can get away with washing every other day, sometimes 3 days in the dead of winter.
For body/volume I use Oscar Blandi mousse or B&b Texture cream. I usually apply wet, braid and sleep on it, then comb out and let it air dry in the morning.
I also like Macadamia Natural oil for moisturizing. About a teaspoon through my hair makes it super smooth.

Do you use a conditioner with the Klorane? I got a dry shampoo from them in my Birchbox that I love, so I'd be tempted to try more from them.

I use Suave Natural Infusions conditioner. I like the Klorane conditioner, but the bottle is so tiny & is $16, so I stopped. The Klorane shampoo lasts forever though. My last bottle took 6 months to finish up.
Really? I'm always tempted...but I get nervous about the price.
A bottle lasts a long time for me - maybe about 6 weeks. I use it daily, but don't need as many pumps as they say. You can buy a bottle on Amazon if you want to try just one bottle.
I either do a loose ponytail literally on the top of my head or a loose bun on the top of my head with the elastic only going around twice. Otherwise I get a giant rats nest near my neck.
The key to eliminating breakage/hair loss is to not wrap the elastic too tightly.

I had this problem but started sleeping with my hair in a hair clip on the top of my head. I tried a messy bun with a hair binder but was hair was then always kinked in the morning. Now, I just barley have to run my straightener through it and it looks great.
