I think it went very well. It was very informal and the person I spoke to currently works this position and she's retiring. She really didn't inquire about my skills but spent the whole time describing the type of work you would do, work environment, hours, etc.
She asked if I was still interested and my only question was about the salary. So she gave a number and my heart sank. I swear she stated $18-20,000k and so cue in this awkward conversation where I stated my last salary. She stated that was may not be doable but it would still be worth having me come in to talk with the owner maybe it's something to negotiate about....
Then she said something and I stopped her and said..."Hold on, can you clarify the number you gave me. Are you talking about $18-20,000 a year or $18-20/hr?"
Turns out it's the latter..... phew.
I apologized for being confused and said I am more than willing to move onto being considered.
So, I'm expecting a phone call to meet with the owner early next week.
My only worry is that awkward conversation will cause me to lose out on the position. Like I showed my cards too soon. I hope I can talk to the owner so I really can sell myself to him.
