First, let me preface this by saying I love my new job. Love it. The work is challenging, the co-workers are awesome, the clients are world-class, the environment is excellent.
However. There's a position that opened up at a company close to home. They are global company. The company offers a shitton of benefits, including childcare, a health center, shopping at a discount at the company store, and happen to be top employer in our county. lasagnasshole might be able to guess who it is.
That said, I've heard some sketch things about it lately. They've gone thru some layoffs recently. They laid off my BIL (who had worked there for 13 years) in a restructuring and I think that's pretty shittacular.
The position was for a Lead/Manager of Digital Marketing. I'm qualified for it.
Why not apply and see what happens? Are you concerned your current employer would find out?
Uhm. A bit. It's a SMALL community here in IT.
Also that I've only been at this job for 5 months and my last job before it was 8 months and that looks kinda shitty and job hoppy. And I don't want my name/resume flagged that way from now to forever. KWIM?

Hmmm, usually I'm of the opinion to just apply and see what happens, but this gives me pause. I'd pass.
Ditto the last three posters. You'll look pretty job-hoppy (and therefore like a bad bet), you already know they have been laying off people in the past, and the perks might not last forever. Are they significantly better than the ones you have in your new job that you love? Would you be okay with leaving a job you love for better perks, and what might not be a great job, or one that lasts very long?

If this opportunity had come 5-6 months ago, I would have leaped at it. The employer is, generally, an awesome one. They are one of those employers where you ALWAYS watch for opportunities to see if you can get in. And getting in is rare.
I'm just feeling salty about my BIL.
I don't know where the layoffs all were. BIL is/was an environmental engineer there, global systems manager.

Apply! You never know what will happen. Based on the bolded, I feel like you'll regret not at least applying and finding out more info. Doesn't mean you have to take it if you get an offer.
You never know unless you apply. If this is by lasagna's former location I may know whatcomapnybyoure talking. About. If so a good friend worked there in a high level position and said it was just too demanding
