After being almost cancelled the Dirty Girl Run is still happening this weekend! So give me your best tips for doing a mud run, what to wear (shorts or capris), etc...
We were going to do matching tanks and capris but with the run possibly not happening we decided to just wear what we had rather than investing more money on a run that may or may not happen.

Make sure your sneakers are tight. I almost lost one in the mud. I also got cut up pretty good from some gravel and crawling all around so if I did it again I'd bring some Neosporin and band aids.
Lurker chiming in! I did Dirty Girl in NC a couple months ago. All of the above advice is excellent. My team did matching outfits, and our tops were not tight... so what started out as cute tank tops ended up looking more like filthy dresses at the end because the mud really weighed them down. Our shorts weren't tight enough either, so it was all most of us could do to keep them from falling down! I also got a really nasty scrape from gravel at the bottom of a slide (which I still have a scar from) so make sure you wear capris or at least make sure your shorts aren't too short. Please don't wear tutus-- every person I saw that started out with a tutu ended up tossing them aside pretty early on. If you wear contacts, be very careful. One of our team members ended up with a scratched cornea because mud got in her eye and under the contact. VERY long line for "showers" at the end. Bring a change of clothes and a towel, and shoes/flip flops to change into (one of my teammates forgot). Also bring a plastic bag for all your muddy clothes, unless you decide to throw them away. You can donate your muddy shoes at the end if you wish.

I've done a few mud runs in the past -- definitely capris, your knees will thank you on the crawling parts. And tighter clothes so you don't get all sloppy when wet!
I always wear stuff I can toss...but never actually toss it. But most places do have a shoe donation bin post-race so wear old, abused shoes if you are thinking of donating. The lack of cushion/tread won't make much difference in a mud run!
When I did Warrior Dash and Run for your life (zombie run) I got filthy in the mud both times. Best thing I did was wear a bathing suit under my running clothes, sports bra, etc so when I got to the showers I stripped to my suit and got pretty clean. If you'll be doing obstacles you'll want gloves! The mud makes ropes incredibly slick.

I've done Dirty Girl twice, and will be doing it again in September (so they say). The obstacles are pretty easy, I never thought I needed gloves, but you do get filthy. I'd wear capris, regardless of what the weather is. When you do some of the crawling obstacles, you're bound to be walking on rocky ground, and it can tear up your knees. Also, don't wear anything you don't mind getting gross. Bring a couple towels, a garbage bag, and a change of clothes. They do have a shower area to get most of the mud off, but the lines can get pretty long, depending on when you're running. When I got home, I just put everything in one load in the washer. It usually comes out pretty clean. Have fun!
