Fresh out of college, I applied for a job I'd heard about from a classmate. He said it was an entry level secretarial job that paid $40k a year. I went to the interview without a resume () and they drew a smiley face on my application and invited me back for a second interview. And the office was attached to a wholesale rug outlet building, under an elevated highway.
It turned out to be a "group interview" - this little greasy guy came in wearing a gold dollar sign ring, and he immediately threw out a girl who asked why he wasn't wearing a tie (a plant, I realized in retrospect). Then he talked for nearly three hours about his life and how he made millions. He kept mentioning that his wife was a six-foot African-American model for some reason. He wrapped it up and asked for Q&A, and spent another hour answering morons' questions.
At the end he finally got to the point of the job, which was selling knockoff perfumes.
No idea why I didn't just walk out, or why I was stupid enough not to realize it was a scam in the first place. Maybe because I was 21 and broke and desperate to get a job so I could finally move out?
I have been getting those since I have been job searching. I also have been getting ones from insurance companies dying to bring me in as a sales rep, NO I DONT WANT TO DO THAT SO STOP!
I get at least 5 of those emails a week. I have taken to responding back to them with somenot so pleasant words. I have no desire to bust my ass in a comission only position that only generates income for someone else.
