I put in the randoms that I'm going to a meeting tonight to state my opinion against a chik-fil-a that is under considerationt o be built in my town. Below is what i've written out (X's represent city names)-do you think it's too long for 2 minutes? It may be, but I'm not sure what to cut out. Any suggestions?
I am here this evening a resident of XX to formally state that I oppose the development of a Chik-fil-a in XX/XX. As I am sure most of you are aware, Chik-fil-a's corporate foundation, WinShape Foundation, donates millions of dollars each year to foundations that fight against equal right for lesbian and gay invidviduals. Chik-fil-a maintains that they do not support political or social agendas, but in fact they do by contributing to groups like the Marriage and Family Foundation and The Family Research Council. The Marriage and Family Foundation, to which Chik-fil-a donated almost 1.2 million dollars in 2011, advocates against marriage equality and opposes efforts to extend protected class status to lesbian and gay individuals. The Family Research Council, which is the lobbying arm of Focus on the Family, states that its mission is to advance faith, family and freedom in public policy. While advancing family and freedom are admirable and something I think almost all of us would agree with, the Family Research Council was designated a hate group by the Southern Policy Law Center because they slander and spread misinformation about homosexuals as molesters. They also suggest that homosexuality be criminalized and that homosexuals should be exported from the country. In addition, the founder and current president of the FRC purchased the Ku Klux Klan's mailing list from David Duke and has participated in meetings of the Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC), one of America's premier white supremacist organizations. I believe that everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion, however, this is more than just a personal opinion from the founders of Chik-fil-a. Every dollar spent at a chik-fil-a funds campaigns against equal rights for homosexuals and may also be funding activities of white supremacist organizations. In a county that voted 2:1 in favor of marriage equality in 2012, and in which each precinct in XX,SS, and XX voted in favor of marriage equality, I do not think that the agenda of Chik-fil-a represents this community.
Have you timed yourself? Stand in front of a mirror, take a deep breath, and read at a slower pace, enunciating everything. Report back what your time is.
I can. But it's tight. You should do what pixy0stix said since I have no idea how quickly you talk. Keep in mind though that You probably will talk a little faster in the heat of the moment.
A friend suggested that I take out the part about the KKK mailing list and fraternizing with white supremacist groups, but I feel like that is a layer most people haven't heard of (I hadn't until GBCN). I did take a bit out and tighten it some since I posted.
I thought that Chick-fila had stopped making those donations?
Based on my research they have made smaller donations to FRC but they have increased their donations to Marriage and Family Foundation which in turn donated much more to FRC than they had in the past
