If you had to name your kids other names what would they be? Any plans for more kids? What would your death row meal be? Ever been arrested? Bonus points if you tell us why. Do you like the smell of asparagus pee? If you had to switch places for a day with a nextie who would it be? If you won $5M tax free tomorrow what would you do with it? Do you prefer reading a real book or on an ereader? Why?

what made you come over to the seattle board? where (what board) were you from?
I used to post mostly on the Home & Garden and Health & Fitness board. I occasionally lurked here at the old Nest site, but don't know why I never posted. Then decided why not! Seems like a good group .
did your h ever go back to NJ after originally ditching his ticket? (i mean relatively short period of time after, obviously he's been back sometime in the last 17 yrs, right?). I think the first time he went back to NJ after moving out here was almost a year later? His parents were definitely caught of guard with the whole thing. They are more conservative, and are of the mind set that you go to the right school, go to the right college, then go to NYC and work for some big firm in Manhatten. DH moved to Seattle and worked at a coffee shop.
now that the kids have done a backpack trip, do you plan on doing more? Definitely. Summer weekends seem to get booked up quickly, but DH and I were saying we'd like to do at least 1 backpack trip and 1 car camping trip each summer.
do you enjoy car-camping at all? (drive-in, unpack there). i enjoy car camping, and am looking for new (non-state-park) spots. I do really like to car camp too. I'll PM you, but there is a great spot off of Highway 97 that isn't an official camp spot, but you can drive into it, there is room for a tent, people have built a fire ring, etc. The down side is it is possible you will get there and someone else will be there, but we never had that problem. We have some friends that do a ton of car camping and I can ask her for recommendations too.
how big is/was your tent for this last trip? how much does it weigh? It's a 4-person tent with an 8x8' footprint. Bigger than what we would normally bring backpacking, but we needed the room with 2 kids and 2 dogs. I'm not sure how much it weighs - DH carried it in his pack I'm guessing maybe 10lbs?
maybe i missed it, but how exactly did you and h meet? DH was working at a coffee shop downtown with my room mate. We hung out with a lot of people from her work and she kept inviting him over because she thought I would like him. He could never come, but one day she invited him over to watch a movie with a few of us. After maybe 15 minutes she went to bed. So I ended up giving him a ride home. It was cute because I lived in lower Queen Anne and he lived in Greenwood. He didn't have a car so he took the bus everywhere. The only way he knew to tell me how to get to his house was to follow the #5 bus route.

i got chills reading this. i REALLY want a new site, we've been going to the same one for 7 years (and our friends we go with for 25+ years), and as AWESOME as it is, people are finding out about it, and like you said, sometimes we show up, and there's someone there. and that's just heartbreaking. there's about 4 spots in the area, and lately, we always get the worst one.

If you had to name your kids other names what would they be? I'd probably rename DD to her middle name - so Reese. DS I'd then name Elijah. Any plans for more kids? We're pretty sure we're done. Not sure enough to take any permanent measures, but pretty sure. What would your death row meal be? Melanzana Mediterranea from Pasta Bella. It's a baked eggplant dish that is SO good and I'm sure SO bad for you. Haven't had it in years. Finish it off with some tirimisu. Or I'd do sushi. I LOVE sushi. Ever been arrested? Bonus points if you tell us why. Not that I can recall? Do you like the smell of asparagus pee? Absolutely not. If you had to switch places for a day with a nextie who would it be? I don't feel like I know any of you enough to answer this well. UW seems like she has some good fashion sense/style. I'm not very stylish so that it would be nice to switch places with her. If you won $5M tax free tomorrow what would you do with it? Donate $100K, buy a ski condo in Whistler, give the rest to DH to invest, and talk to a tax advisor about setting up a trust for the kids. Do you prefer reading a real book or on an ereader? Why? A real book. I like getting books from the library, I like the feel of holding a real book, I get too worried about an ereader being damaged (at the beach, etc.), I like being that example to the kids of detaching from electronics, and the instant I pull out the iPad the kids ask if they can play a game or watch a show.
What's your dream vacation? (stealing from Dreamwinds) I'm not sure I have the balls to do it, but I'd love to travel to Tiera del Fuego, and then take a boat to Antarctica.
DH and I did Tierra del Fuego in January 2009. I loved it - thought it was so beautiful. Antarctica is on our list for 2013 or 2014, depending on what he does with his job... but I would *highly* recommend Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego... actually I would highly recommend all of Argentina (if you're into outdoorsy stuff, you might consider El Calafate and the Perito Moreno Glacier and a trip to Torres del Paine in Chile if you ever start looking into that area of the world).
Sounds amazing! One regret I have is that we didn't travel like that more before having kids.
any thing/milestones you missed when they were kids (i.e a handprint, a certain photo, a certain memory) that you wish you could get back from the kids? have a list that you are glad you didn't miss?
so you said you weren't really sure about having kids before...were the kids unplanned? or what made you change your mind?
No, they were planned. I think I changed my mind when my brother's oldest was around 2 years old. I just fell in love with him, and realized I definitely wanted kids of my own.
other than traveling more, is there anything else you wish you had done?
Sometimes I wish we had started having kids earlier. If we had, we'd probably have 3. But I also know we weren't ready to have kids before we did. But prekids there isn't much that I wish I had done.

Honestly, not that I can think of. Wait, I take that back. I missed DD's graduation from daycare. Not a huge deal, but they put on a show and had them wear caps and gowns. The whole to-do. It was the same weekend as my high school reunion, and I had already purchased my airline tickets when they scheduled the graduation. DH just made sure to get the whole thing on video for me.
I do. She had a great class this past year. I like most of the kids and the parents. It will be interesting to see who is in her class next year.
Regarding public or private? I'm a big proponent of public schools. DH comes from a private school background. Boarding school actually. But he also want to stay in public school unless we have a strong reason to look at private schools. I am worried about middle school here.
