I am in the process of getting my transcripts transferred to a local kommunity kollege, because I still don't have even an associates.
My concern is with work travel. I travel about once a month for 3-4 days. Many times I control the schedule; sometimes it's corporate training or a trade show and there's nothing I can do about those dates.
If anyone else is in a similar situation, are professors willing to work with you here? I would do everything in my power to not travel on a test week, but sometimes I simply can't control the schedule. I plan on going pretty much VERY part-time at first, especially as I tackle math and science classes where all the knowledge has leaked out of my brain.
I know online school would probably be the way to go for me, but I feel like I spend SO. MUCH. TIME. on my computer between work, photography, and GBCN that I can't bear the thought of adding another online component. LOL.
I don't think professors would be very willing to work with anyone's schedule. You sign up to the class, you go or you don't. I think online classes would be best, especially when you are out of town.
What if everyone asked their professors to work with their schedules? They can't do it, don't have to do it and won't do it. Everyone has a unique and challenging situation. I say online is the best idea!
My FI took a couple of college classes (he audited) recently and were he getting graded, he would have failed because he missed a few classes and turned in assignments late due to his job/travel schedule.

But but but....I am a super special snowflake! Maybe if I have my mom call...

Yeah I am with joenali, it isn't really possible. I have 60 students per section, I can't start working around everyone's schedules. If it is exceptional, yes, but not just for regular work traveling/events. What are you looking into studying? I know lots of programs are now coming up with hybrid courses, part online and part classroom. Maybe that would be a good option?

Just a plain ole boring business degree. I guess I will start looking for online courses. Even I can't predict my fall travel schedule at this point, and occasionally my boss will spring a trip on us, like, 3 weeks in advance.
I get it from the teacher's perspective, I just don't love the idea of online school.
If it helps, I find that my online classes don't add that much more time to my computer time. I suppose it depends on the content of the class, but most of it is getting my assignments, completing readings and writing papers I would have to do anyway, and then going online to submit them.

I'm in Grad School, it's 99% online. It does suck since I'm on my computer all day at work, and then sit on the computer at night after the kids are in bed. But, it's the only way I can manage being in school. So online it is. I just try to remember it's only temporary! Also I drink lots of wine. Helps me with my homework.

This is a completely disheartening response, sorry! I just finished my degree last week and unfortunately found even the "coolest" professors to be difficult to deal with in regard to last minute travel and tests. At the beginning of the semester they'd be great but as they got back logged on grading, they treated it like an inconvenience even when I offered to take the tests early, late or whatever was best for them.
In the end, I ended up having to abandon my original major and go into a completely online program (at the same brick & mortar state school) to finish due to crappy online class offerings. I'm still glad I finished my degree both on a personal level and so that I can attend a professional MBA program, but it wasn't at all the college experience I wanted nor felt I paid for. Everyone tells me grad school is so much more career-friendly, so I'm hoping it's true.
Unfortunately, math and science will probably be some of the hardest to make work, especially if you have labs. You can request the syllabus in advance and see if there are any glaring date conflicts. Professors are most willing to work with you if you can clear up any date conflicts before you even register. I would go as online as you can for now.

This is what sucks the most for me. I could definitely benefit from class time in these areas as they are not my strength. I did take an online math class once and it was horrible - basically the blind leading the blind. LOL.

I definitely understand-- could you maybe take the class online and then take advantage of on campus tutoring/instruction centers on your own schedule? My community college has an entire department devoted to drop in math tutoring with hugely flexible hours. Sorry you're in this position... hope you can find a way to make it work!
