You enjoy a flood that damages others cars and property? Whut?!
Bad choice of words, sorry. Coincidental or ironic would be more fitting, "enjoy" was intended to be sarcastic. As someone who lives in one of the driest part of CA, I get the importance of water. The "Haha!" was about the sharks. Sorry it read that way.

My kiddo is at summer camp there this week. Luckily his camp is at the baseball stadium which is off campus, but his dad works on campus and picked him up and they drove over that stretch of Sunset 10 minutes before all hell broke loose. I am very grateful for the timing so my son and his dad weren't trapped in that mess. And he had already called me to tell me about his dad and that he was in his dad's office when I saw it on the news so I knew he was fine.
It's really sad. My alumni alerts say (for those who know campus) Drake Stadium, the IM Field, Pauley and Lots 4 and 7 are where the bulk of the damage occurred. No major injuries have been reported. The medical center/hospital were not affected. Campus is still open today, but that area is closed and all campus that are being held on campus are cancelled. Sunset remains closed between Veteran and Hilgard and it is unknown when that will reopen.
I saw pics yesterday. They were telling cars to avoid the area, too. The Sunset Blvd on/off ramp on the 405 is a pretty major traffic area, so I can only imagine how many people this affected. And yeah, an extra 40 minutes in traffic isn't the same as being trapped in your car or having your property damaged, but this is LA, so sometimes a 2 hour commute FEELS like the worst thing in the world.

All classes are being held today, they are working on finding an alternative to summer camp and the day care center on North Campus. As you noted Drake Stadium, Pauley, Auther Ashe Center they are all a mess.
I feel bad for those who have their cars in Lot 4 & 7 since anyone on the lower levels I'm sure their car has major water damage.

Is this supposed to say all classes are cancelled? I hope so, mostly because no one is going to walk all the way around campus down into Westwood and back up just to go to class when they have an excuse like this!
I'm glad your son wasn't involved! This must be such a traffic nightmare to have Sunset shut down.

Nope, all classes are being held today! All the residence halls and none of the buildings with classrooms are affected. And the campus buses are running!

Well maybe today's UCLA students are just better people, but I can tell you that approximately none of my friends would have gone to class. Walking around campus is too far! And either we didn't have buses or, more likely, no one took them. We barely went to class in the rain because it was too wet, I'm sure that flooding would have been ample reason to stay home.

Oh I'm fairly certian that the kids are taking full advantage of not going to class today but the University made a point of making sure everyone knew that they were open today. I'm fairly certainly half of the staff tried to get out of coming to work today.

col379, the teachers are why I was originally saying I hope classes are canceled. They're just going to stand there in basically empty rooms with like 2 overachieving students. I feel bad for them!

No, it was supposed to say all "camps" - like the kid summer camps. Sorry for the type-o. Work is NUTS today and I was typing quickly

I hear this. No way would I have walked around. Although I understand it is finals this week for summer classes, so that may be motivation.
