So DH is trying to talk me into this car (same car...different names between model years) but I just cannot stomach the almost $50,000 it costs with all the options he wants. It seems a bit insane to me. Anyone care to sell me on why they are awesome? We'd be financing it and I'm annoyed that the lowest rates are 2.9% for a new car loan. The other cars we were looking at had 0%. Boo.
Is he completely against getting a slightly used car (2-3 years old)? At $50k it seems like he is getting every upgrade known to man. Does he need them? I know nothing about this car so I am really not helpful.
Also, have you checked banks and credit unions for rates? My credit union is offering 1.99% for 36 months and 2.49% for 48 or 60 months.
Just so we're all on the same page here, you knew going into this post that all votes would inevitably be Team You give the facts as you've posted them, right?
$50k car? That you need to finance? At > 0%? With MM approval? LOL.

It actually doesn't have EVERYTHING...there are some listed for like $58 WTF. Really our must haves are leather seats, back-up camera and a DVD player (we take a good amount of car trips and have little kids- it's a live saver).
I haven't really checked around for rates...I'll look into that.

Ha! Yes, I know this crowd is going to side with me We would finance it....we don't have $50,000 sitting around that I'd want to put into a car. We wouldn't finance 100% but, yeah. Ok, this is good....keep me strong. Can you tell I'm the saver and he's the spender. Although I use "saver" loosely.
DH salivated over this SUV when it first came out. But he read a ton of reviews and they weren't stellar or anything. It's a nice luxury vehicle with a lot of technology though. We ended up with a Hyundai Santa Fe that cost much less, but has some great technology.
You may also want to check out the Nissan Pathfinder. It's the same chassis as the Infiniti, with similar features but a lower price.
The Nissan Murano is also getting a full redesign and comes out this fall. It has a ton of great features and will also be cheaper (but not a 7 passenger).

Thanks for the info. I really like the Santa Fe too but from what I can find, getting a DVD player isn't even an option which I find odd for 2014.
I like the Pathfinder, too but it doesn't get as good of reviews as the Infiniti.
I'll look at the Murano...we need a 3rd row though...
Actually no. He has though, but it would be my primary car so obviously the next logical step. What didn't you like about it?
I honestly don't even understand what the point is of buying the car your H wants so badly if it's going to be your primary car. Get something you want that costs less.
He's the driving force behind all our car purchases bc I couldn't really care less what I drive. As long as the numbers work and it gets good mechanical/ safety ratings, I'm good.
Have you test driven the car? I hated the way it drove so much.

I like fairly firm steering. It didn't feel particularly responsive-like I was unable to accurately guess how much I needed to turn the wheel to make a 90 degree term.
And the salesman admitted to me that the DVD players are a ripoff and it's less expensive to buy multiple iPads, but you pretty much can't get it without the DVD players.
I will confess to getting a lot less MM car but I think at a similar price point, the Acura MDX is a far better car

i bought a 2014 QX60 in the fall for 50K fully loaded. i must say i LOVE it! we were sold on the passenger middle seat that allows you to slide up the seat and still access the 3rd row even with a carseat in it. the other cars we looked at with 3rd row (enclave, mdx) were not nearly as easy to get into the back seat on. it was an expensive car, i admit. i didn't look at the jx35, so i can't comment on how different (or not different) it might be. i will say, the only thing that i think sucks about it is the Bluetooth interface with my phone. it is ridiculously difficult to make a voice command call on this car. it seems that for a luxury company they could improve on that a lot.

Have you checked out true car.com? You can indicate the options you want and it will tell you what a good price is vs. what a salesperson tries to tell you.

I think Infiniti just has bluetooth issues. DH has had a 2007 M35 and a 2013 G37 and the bluetooth is weird on both. The person your talking to gets an echo kind of thing. I can say it is better on the 2013 but it's still there. Service said that was pretty normal and they couldn't do anything about it
I got a CPO 2011 (bought it in early 2013, so less than 2 years old) FX35 with just 10k miles (fully loaded) for 30k. It is a great deal for an almost new car. It makes no sense to buy a brand new luxury vehicle because it depreciates like crazy.

Would you need to finance a less expensive car or would you be able to pay cash? Because if you have to finance a car regardless of the price, then you should definitely pick the cheaper one. And if you can buy a cheaper car with all cash, why would you not do that? Of course, I don't even own a car so...
Re DVD player, I actually really like having it NOT built in (that was actually something we actively avoided). It's so easy to use a portable DVD player or iPad and there's no expectation that every time we get in the car DD gets to watch TV.

Don't forget to consider the maintenance cost. I cry a little when I see DH's receipt for gas (for his Infiniti) and curl up in a fetal position when we have to buy new tires (every 1.5 yrs). Also if something breaks his parts are always more expensive then if I have issues with my Toyota.
