We're getting rid of Netflix so suggestions on how anyone "rents" movies now would be awesome. I've heard someone say they rent movies off of Google? We use Redbox....but I miss being able to search for movies.
We often use Family Video - We wait for coupons to get them free of half off (I'm so cheap) And we use redbox whenever we get a free movie rental from there! We also have Amazon Prime and there are quite a great selection of movies on there!
I get most of my movies from the library, which has a really huge movie selection. Some recent dvds I watched: American Hustle, Wolf of Wall Street, Pompeii, Ride Along, We're the Millers, Secret Life of Walter Mitty. I was really disappointed by the first two. I expected much more; I thought they were way over-hyped. Wall street was just a modern-day Scarface, imo. DiCaprio carried the movie and clearly tried really hard. He's an excellent actor. Pompeii had some eye candy (Kit Harrington) but was forgettable otherwise. Ride Along was funny, and I enjoyed it. We're the Millers was surprisingly hilarious. Walter Mitty was cute. I like Ben Stiller in that quirky/serious role.
The last movie I saw at the theater was X-Men and enjoyed it. I like superhero movies, and it was well-done - exciting and action-packed. I have a bunch more movies on hold at the library, including: Transcendence, Divergent, Captain America, The Other Woman, Noah, 300: Rise of an Empire, Non-stop, That Awkward Moment. Right now I'm looking forward to the Giver movie, the Hobbit, and the Hunger Games.
We rent new movies from Amazon Prime. I will ditto PPs that Lone Survivor was a really well done movie, though it is extremely emotional. I felt broken by the end of it, even knowing what was coming.
We've been watching a lot of Tom Hardy movies lately. Lawless was really good. Also, if you're looking for a comedy, That Awkward Moment was hilarious.

Can I say that I miss Blockbuster?

It was like a whole new world to me when I realized the library had movies, lol. I'd really only been using my library card for Kindle books before that.
We have Netflix (plus VPN so can watch US or Can Netflix as well as UK). We also have LoveFilm, which got bought out by Amazon.
The last movie we watched wasn't really one I'd recommend for anyone looking for entertainment. I bought off of iTunes, and it's called 'Return to Zero'. It's really well done, and has an amazing cast (Minnie Driver is in it), but is about stillbirth and the experience of losing a baby. I mostly wanted to watch it because it made me feel slightly less alone in my experience, but it's not exactly what I'd recommend for your Saturday night popcorn accompaniment.

We also watch The Secret Life of Walter Mitty recently. It was pretty good. Interesting story, but a little weird of course. We've also watched Savings Mr Banks (a little boring but interesting) lately. I'm not a big movie person so we don't rent that often.
estrellita - The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was another one we were pleasantly surprised by. It was really thoughtful and well done. Not something you always get from Ben Stiller movies. lol.

The library is very underrated! My town has an excellent library with a huge movie and book selection. I'm getting my tax dollars' worth from it by going every week.
I heard a lot of good things about the Guardians movie, so I might see that in the theater. I just watched the Monuments Men and was a bit disappointed. It lacked the depth that I expected from a WWII movie, but it was still interesting and had good acting. Clooney and Matt Damon are always fun to watch.
MrsMB - We watched another Tom Hardy movie this weekend -- Warrior. SO GOOD. Oh my gosh. You don't expect much from movies like that, but it was actually really incredible. I would watch it again. Plus, Tom Hardy.
