Hi, hoping over from TIP to see if anyone has used chalk paint on any projects. I have an old buffet I'd like to paint to use as a tv cabinet and I've been hearing a lot about it. I've painted plenty of furniture in my day and I'm wondering what the fuss is about.

I've tried the Annie Sloan chalk paint and making my own. I wasn't a huge fan (though I really wanted to be).
AS did not go on very smooth so I had to sand, which was what I wanted to avoid. It also took a lot more paint than what I was expecting and it's pretty pricey.
I've had a lot of luck with smooth finishes from the Plaster Paint Company. I've tried them, Annie Sloan, CeCe Caldwell, American Paint Company, and Americana something from Home Depot. My best successes have been from Plaster Paint (brand).

I agree....I thought I was going to love it, but I needed more coats than I used with regular paint and was not that happy with the result.
I was also wondering about chalkpaint. I have a dining room table, 6 chairs and a china cabinet I want to paint. The idea of sanding all of it down makes me feel sick! I have painted cabinets and stuff but not furniture without sanding it. Any recommendations for a super smooth application? Has anyone done it on a table/chairs that get a lot of use? Just curious if it chips easily with normal use.
Did you sand down the table/chairs before painting it? Mine is a stained/finished table so it's kind of glossy already. Paint probably won't stick to that. I have used a special Zinsser primer on my bathroom cabinets that were melamine and paint sticks fine to that. Those cabinets came out great.
