I'm curious how other people will respond, but did you sign a contract or anything with the original price on it? If not, I can't imagine there's much to be done, especially since he hasn't even started attending yet. That blows.

Did you sign a contract? What did it say about tuition increases? Unless your contract says you locked into this price, then why do you think you can do anything about it? And the price increase would have happened if you'd started in April or waited until Sept to start. I dont understand why you think that you could have avoided it since you hadn't even started going yet?
I think September (new school year) is normal for a tuition increase, but it still sucks she isn't even there yet. And that's a big increase IMO, that's almost 20%!

Holy shit $60? I was pissed our daycare went up $11 a week. Is the $370 in line with other daycares in the area or can you find a comparable center for less? Fwiw with our increase we will be paying $362 a week in a HCOL area.

We are around that, too, but she's only one day a week.
If you signed a contract, I would see if you can keep your price you signed at, but annual increases are par for the course with daycare and worth it if you find a place you dig.

Is approx $90/day the going rate in your area? Or is the rate slightly higher because he's only going 1 day a week? I know it can be hard to find a daycare that will only do part time, let alone 1 day a week.

It's $60 more a month. $370 a month for 1 day a week. So $15 more a week.
That horrifies me less but I pay $362 a week. LOL
I am not sure how negotiable the rate is. I think it is pretty set but it is worth asking. My only other thought is how much do the have you in a corner with doing one day a week? I know here part time is almost impossible to find. I would at least explore other daycares. Worst case scenario you start where you are now and switch to a less expensive place when you can.

I dunno? Bc this is my first kid and I've never used daycare before? I wouldn't know when price increases would happen.
The contract does state the price. It doesn't say when increases would happen or that they happen every year.
But what does the contract say regarding increases? Is there a general catch-all of "prices subject to increase" somewhere in there? If so, I don't think there's much you can do.

LOL, so you already knew that the contract/handbook says that the price is subject to change but you wanted to know if you could be exempt from the increase? Okay.
And yeah, you have even less room for negotiation since you are looking for a schedule that not many daycares even offer.
What I'm asking here is if it's normal to try to negotiate this.
If I had known that prices would go up so much, I would have registered him somewhere else.
No, it's not normal to negotiate this. Why can't you register somewhere else now if you have other options?
I dunno about the OP but in my area you have to be on a wait list for a long time before you get in.
$15/day is a big increase. I would at the very least tell them that the increase surprised you and that you would have gone elsewhere if you had known.
If we had two kids here, we would pay $35,000 a year.
Which is why we are considering moving.
I couldn't even bring myself to do the yearly cost because the monthly made me want to cry. I even recalculated it with the oh so generous 5% discount they give you for the second kid and cried more.
Plus, I'm almost 40 and don't live in Daytona. Stripping is no longer an option.
Womp womp.
We would have to eat ramen & pb&j every day if I quit. not to mention, I don't want to stop working.
You have the boobs for stripping!
LOL. One of my very good friends was a dancer and made outstanding money. Every time I'd go see her dance I'd think, "Hmmmmm. I could totally do this." And then I would hear one of her stories and say, "NOPE."
My boobs are pretty outstanding now, but I'm still nursing. I give them t-minus six or seven months.

I would call and say you chose this place based on price and see if they can work with you. I figure it never hurts to ask. They will probably say no, but why not ask?
