I have recently gained some weight and I've been feeling really bad about my appearance in clothing lately. I recently ordered some things from Old Navy and Loft and they haven't been flattering and I've returned most of what I ordered. I actually was thinking of keeping a couple of things I didn't "love" because I figured I might just have to accept that when you're fat, you're fat no matter what you wear. Blah.
But I went to Dress Barn today and the experience was totally different. Everything fit and was flattering. I mean nothing made me look like a size 8 or anything, but the structure of the clothing and the materials are sooo much more flattering and lots of stuff was on sale so prices were (mostly) reasonable.
I swear I'm never shopping anywhere else again (ok, maybe that's an exaggeration). I left feeling 100% better about wearing clothes.

::raises hand:: I got a pair of jeans there a few years ago that had a soft piece of fabric lining on the inside of the waist band which made them suuuper comfortable. Plus, it eliminated what my sister calls "virtual pants" where you take of your pants after wearing them all day and the marking on your stomach makes it look like you are still wearing them lol.

I keep forgetting about Dress Barn! I've found some good things there in the past, but I don't think I've set foot in one in a few years. Tomorrow my fun money starts over again, so I know what I'm doing this weekend!
I love Dress Barn, not just for the clothes but also the customer service. I love that they take your stuff, get you a dressing room and then stay there to get you sizes etc.
But seriously, could BARN be any less appealing of a word here? #namingfail
Right? I've never been in a Dress Barn and the name is largely the reason why. It evokes either "MOOOOO" or a "bargain barn" kind of feeling, and neither is very appealing.
I have always laughed at the name too. I only started shopping there in the last few years, I think I had the same negative reaction to the "barn" before that.
They seriously have the cutest stuff. I bought a few casual dresses, a cardigan, 3 jackets for interviews (1-2 will be returned, not sure which one(s) though), and a top or two today. In the past I've bought special occasion and work dresses. I love that they have something that will work for pretty much any situation.

This has never happened at a dress barn by me.
Oh, that's too bad! I do think it's their typical way of doing business. I've shopped primarily at the one in town here and the one by my mom's house, but I've found the sales ladies to be super helpful. The woman today took my clothes twice while I was browsing and checked on me twice while I was trying things on, and even asked me to come out and show her what one of the dresses looked like (it was new and she wanted to see it on a person). That seems to be the norm. Your store is doing it wrong!
ETA: I've also had them pull stuff (without my asking) for me to try on! That never happens elsewhere

I love Dress Barn. Every time I visit my BFF we end up going there and trying on everything in the store (and usually leaving with at least a dress or two). It's so affordable, too.
I'm poking around the site now and...it's not wowing me. Mostly all I see are busy patterns, or solids with too many design features. Can anyone post examples of something they love? Maybe I just need to go to a store.

The website is terrible.
You need to go to a store and bring your patience with you.
I go there if I need a dress for an occasion, because they have a ton of styles to try on. Most are NMS but the quality of the dresses is good for the price and they have a huge selection. I've gotten lucky enough times that it's worth it to me to give it a shot.
I find there is a lot of fug, but there are gems, mostly in the form of well constructed ponte dresses that make for great wardrobe basics, their Calvin Klein and Jones NY suiting, and their accessories. They have a lot of cute, decent quality costume jewelry.
Both prices and quality seems to be better on the dresses than on the rest of the clothes, and maybe I just don't know where to look, but sales appear to be mediocre. I'm not paying $35 for a rayon blend shell.
I feel like I'm a 50 year old woman looking for a mother if the bride dress to wear to a 1988 wedding while I'm in there. JC Penny seems hip compared to it. I really don't understand why they do not modernize their appearance.

I just bought a really cute maxi dress there. I couldn't find anything cure and decided to go in on a whim. I may revisit today to get another. I don't have a full pic of it but here is the top.
Do you know what's weird? I get weirded out by the name "Dress Barn" and think it's all moo-moos, yet I don't think negatively of the home designs from "Pottery Barn."

It doesn't ever happen in the Newport store near my work, but I always get great customer service at the one in Warwick.
