OMG It honestly blows my mind that people think the NFL should be responsible for issuing punishment for this. You wouldn't expect YOUR employer to issue a harsher punishment than the legal system.
And also, I cannot fucking believe someone said he's "gone dark on social media" as an example of a harsh consequence Rice is dealing with. Holy fuck. WE ARE MORE INTELLIGENT THAN THIS, Y'ALL.
If I were arrested for domestic violence, I would probably have lost my job.
We had someone here No Call NO show because they went to jail for beating their wife. They were terminated and chose to do a peer review in order to save their job. One of the women on the peer review was like " Uhhhhh was there anything YOU could have done to prevent yourself from landing in jail???" His peers unanimously were like " Bitch , boo, bye"
I'm sad his wife doesn't feel this is divorce worthy.
The never seem to. Kobe Bryant's wife wrote the script.
Tiger Woods ex is the only one I can recall who was all 'fuck this, I'm out'
Kobe's wife got the last laugh because she filed for divorce the day after their 10th wedding anniversary. Which means she automatically got 50% of his worth in the divorce. If she had left him when all of the drama was happening she wouldn't have gotten any money.
Agreed. DH and I had a long conversation about this last night. We believe that stuff like this should be up to individual teams' discretion. And we also believe the drug policy is way too strict.
Why should it be up to the teams? They are *businesses* and only concerned about financial gain. This is and should be treated as a legal matter. Full stop.
YES. It's a criminal matter. District attorney prosecutes. People vs. Ray rice. Even without his wife pushing the charges, a prosecutor could definitely pursue this bc of the video. And should.
It's remniscent of the way hobart handled (or DIDNT handle) that poor girl's rape case- the DA should have been immediately involved instead of the school handling it to keep it quiet, for the sake of their football team.
What's with all of these criminals getting free passes?
I need someone to explain to me how pot impacts player performance (other than getting slower I would imagine).
If people are playing worse, that's not good for the game either. At this past World Cup, FIFA told the refs to let the games go and not call too many red and yellow cards so that the game could move at a faster pace because that is more entertaining. I'd think the same principal applies here.
So true, if they are slower, if the d-line is dragging ass after bong hits, then the qb is going to get destroyed. I don't have a problem with pot in general, but these are top athletes getting paid top dollar- they need to keep it clean.

Because the NFL includes morality clauses in their contracts. That's why.
I mean, until it gets in the way of the dollah dollah bills, y'all. Then who gives a shit about that whole morality thing?
I get there are jobs that have morality clauses. I just don't think it's realistic to expect them to bring the hammer down when the justice system didn't. I'm not saying it's right, by any means and I probably could have worded my post better. In our work place, I'm not sure an employee would be fired first in this situation. Especially if he admitted he needed help. The red tape and steps in dealing with things like this can be very complicated.
Between nomad's post about players boycotting and the other chick's post about his social media silence being a huge punishment, I was just like OH MY GOD.
Psssht. In a world where morality clauses get teachers and principals fired for beach bathing suit pictures on Facebook, HELL YES the NFL should punish a guy who tarnishes their brand by being an abusive violent asshole.

You realize the point of a morality clause is to enforce behaviors you want or don't want that aren't necessarily illegal?
Moral =/= legal
How common are morality clauses in contracts? Do most jobs have this sort of thing?
