I love that his obession is music! That's awesome.
David's have come one by one since about 2. First it was Thomas, then Cars, then Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, then Star Wars and now we're onto Ninjago...and still Star Wars.
And Legos. Always Legos. Really, Legos and whatever of the above^^^^^^ he happens to be currently into is all he wants to talk about/do 95% of the time. So I vote....normal.

OMG, Charlie and Star Wars (since age 2, for realz), and now the Ninja Turtles in addition to Star Wars. He wants to be someone who fights- a ninja or a jedi, etc. OMG with the fighting! He will break into crazy ninja moves anytime and anywhere.

How long did Thomas last? DS1 is all about trains, but obviously that includes Thomas as well. He knows alllll about them - steam trains, diesels, the various parts - whistle, light, pistons, the various car types. It's really never ending. He'll take anything and make them a train, too. I think it's ok?

Haha, it sounds like Ninjago is in your future! "Sorry David, but no, spinjitzu is not real but it's a fun story!"
I'm finding they never do grow out of Star Wars, though! That one sticks for life.
Ha! Our dudes should be buds-- my guy is 4 1/2 too, & obsessed with Michael Jackson, & Rocky! He saw like 5 minutes of Rocky IV & now he wants to run around in this one pair of black shorts he has & pretends to box. Otherwise he is asking to watch MJ videos on You Tube, and wearing a fedora and a spider man glove to be like Michael, haha. I think it's normal but man can it get old. And I know that MJ is pretty questionable but I'm figuring he will just grow out of it and letting it go.

David was the same way and at almost 6, he still loves trains but he finally put all of his Thomas trains in the donate pile this year (he rarely plays with them). I'd say it lasted a year or a little more. But he learned a ton about trains while he was into it. We took him to a local spot that has a ton of parked trains where we could go inside and explore them. It's cool how all of the stages are learning experiences, even if they grow out of them.

Oh yeah I think it's totally typical. They are so fascinated with the world- Lets see- when C was 3 he was obsessed with the vacuum cleaner. He would want me to vacuum all the time and then he would take apart the vacuum and make different attachments for it (a budding engineer?)
Then he got super into legos. Still is.
He's also OBSESSED with dressing up. Specifically wearing ties- let me PIP for your entertainment: (Don't mind the getup- I pick my battles with this one- this was what he wanted to grocery shop in)
He's just super into music and a song will come on the radio and he'll say "this is number 10 on the half-apple cd!" (That's disc 2 of the Beatles anthology as described by a 4yr old)

D goes through these stages. Right now it's Swiper from Dora and mermaid tails. She asks every single day for a red mermaid tail, it can't be any other color, and Swiper gets blamed for a lot of stuff around this house lol.
So, we've been talking about this a ton lately with Will's recent ASD diagnosis.
Something his developmental pedi told us is that it's *normal* for most kids.
The problem with ASD kids is that they can't stop talking about it. Like, everything with Will lately is Transformers. EVERYTHING. All things lead back to Transformers, and it's impossible to get him to talk about anything else.

Lol, that's too cute!
His other music obsessions are the Beatles, Doors, and Led Zeppelin. Maybe we should bring him into the 21st century.
The Rocky thing is so funny to me b/c he's such a sensitive kid and hates to see people get hurt. He looked away any time a fighting scene came on.
Yeah, that's why he only saw about 5 mins of the movie, the actual boxing (the finale against Drago) was way too intense fir him. And I love your son's taste in music!
