i'm nosy. so tell me, how much did you spend? and not how much you personally spent if a family member or someone helped you.. how much did the wedding dress you wore to your wedding cost?
I want to say it was around $2500. It was my parents' contribution to our wedding. It was a Reem Acra from Belltown Bride, original price was well over 7 grand.
My dress was $600 and I paid $150 for alterations which include almost a complete overchange of the dress. We changed it from zipper to lace up, and completely changed the bust area. added lace and bead work and changed to sweetheart neck line. Added some lace to the back, etc. So I count the alterations as part of the dress cost because I wouldn't have wore the dress as is.
I think it was about $1500. I designed it with my mom's friend and she and my mom made it. We paid her for time she spent on it and the fabric. I absolutely loved it!
Wow, mine ended up on the more expensive side for our current board. Mine was $1300 before shipping and alterations. I REALLY was going to be hard-core practical and resell it...and it's still sitting in the closet. At first, it was because trying to figure out a place to get it dry-cleaned for cheap kept overwhelming me. Then it was because every time I thought about taking it to get dry-cleaned, that meant I'd be selling it and I got really sad. So, now I've decided I'm keeping it despite all the impractical reasons and I really DO need to get it cleaned
I dunno, I wanted to go cheaper. I really tried to make the $200 jcrew dresses work, but it didn't fit right. As much as I love clothes I couldn't justify spending so much on something that I'd wear for 1 day.
Actually, in hindsight, I still don't know how my parents can justify spending all of that money for 1 day. It was a fun day, but I still think it was a waste of money. There. I said it. Flame away.
sorry, i posted and ran! mine was 550 before alterations. we ahd to hem the dress, sew in the sides (my waist is small), and add cups. i wish i could sell it. it is a beautiful dress and would look great on another big girl. i don't remember how much alterations were. i think 150?

still cheaper than mine . although hopefully I'll be able to sell mine and recoup some of the costs.
Sounders - I fell in love with a Vera Wang I knew I could never afford...but wanted to go try it on just because. I went to a boutique in Portland who said they hadn't...and then they didn't. But they had a dress by a different designer they said was similar, and it REALLY was..but they quoted $2k for it. Then it turned out the dress I was going to get (it was beautiful if honestly, didn't suit my body type perfectly) had been discontinued and they only had the store sample which had issues. I was crushed, called around and was able to get my dream dress for $1200 less. Portland lady was a scam
