Don't laugh, but I got one of these hats and I'm pretty excited about it. (The one I got is actually made of alpaca fiber rather than fur: all of the softness, none of the cruelty.
I'm on the hunt for a nice blazer, so if anyone has a good recommendation, I'm all ears.
Nordstrom rack had a TON of blazers when I was there on Saturday, but I was on a mission for an "office bar b que" outfit. (Army-green maxi skirt with hem detail, black tank layered over white tank with ballet flats). I wish I had a picture. You all would have been proud of my effort.
Awesome. I'm mentally bookmarking that. The nearest Nordstrom Rack is about 2 hours south of here, but I'm headed down that way in a couple of weeks. I already have a tweed blazer, but I want a navy one too that I can throw on over a top and some wide-leg trouser jeans for something that's polished but not overdressed for an academic work environment. (Basically like your inspiration pictures a few posts up.)
Your outfit sounds great! I have been living in maxi skirts and maxi dresses this summer.
I just "invested" in three pairs of skinnies, but I have three pairs of wide legs from FIFTEEN YEARS AGO. So that's probably going to be just fine. Right? RIGHT?!?!
YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! You can totally do both. I don't have any wide legged jeans (I need to rectify this) but I have wide legged dress pants that I effing adore.
I'm seeing a lot of boot cut wide legs here! If you like this look, Gap's long and leans are the absolute BEST. No need to spend $200. They are under $50 and since they are a staple jean for them they are on clearence all the time!

I am so glad wide legs are coming back in. I am wearing my brown wide leg suit pants today with heels and feeling very good about it.
I went shoe shopping the other day and was looking around like "I owned all of this 15 years ago." Shame none of them lasted.

Is their quality still ok? I have long and leans from high school that I'm still wearing, and I'd love to grab some more, but someone had told me that the quality isn't what it used to be.

I don't think I have purchased a new pair since 2010? But every pair I have since first buying them in 2004 are still great. Yes I have 10+ year old jeans...not all of them fit my pre pregnancy body though...
Banana Rupublic also makes a nice version. Not called long and leans though.

Excellent. My biggest complaint about clothes lately is that it seems like everything is so cheaply and poorly made.
I've actually had great luck at consignment shops recently. I'll post some of my finds when I get home today.
I love wide leg pants. It's just all about proportions and styling it right. Wide-leg trouser jeans are perfect for work at my office (maybe not a more formal environment)
I need to go back and read this entire thread. I've been working to update my wardrobe and be more adult.
I've found some cute dresses on eBay that I can layer with cardigans and scarves.
I need a new plaid shirt and I need to suck it up and find a blazer that doesn't look ridiculous on me so I can dress up some of my more casual blouses for work.
I like Thred Up and Twice for online consignment as well as eBay and Old Navy.
I think we've covered this once upon a time. Gap jeans aren't mom jeans. The blogger likes heavy (and tacky as shit) stitching on her ass and isn't satisfied without it.
I only wear Gap jeans. I have yet to look like a mom in them.
She also loves white girl ass. Chronic, short, flat white girl ass. Because some of those pictures, okay most of those pictures, even the ones she declared were good looks, were just plain fucking baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.
Friends don't left friends suffer from flat ass. Even if you have flat ass, there are ways to fix all that.
OK, if I were to break down and order a pair which should I choose?
Keep in mind I walk a ton so anything with a lot of heel is hard for me. Right now I have a lot of black or grey pants and skirts for work so the second pair would be easier to incorporate. I like the look of the first pair better.

I just read all this and feel so much better... I think I was too intimidated to read it all before.
speaking of intimidated... I just got a great deal on bootcut jeans at the Rack. They fit amazingly, except they're too long. I'm thinking of trying to hem them myself, but I'm askeered. @helenabonhamcarter ...is that something a beginner sewer can do? Does it matter that they have some stretch to them?

Totally a beginning sewist project. Just make sure you keep the hem!
