I have PTSD of the early 90s just looking at fall fashion
That's how I know I'm old! I wore some of these trends at ~15ish (esp the floral baby doll dresses with combat boots which I STILL think are cute! lol)

So I just ordered some AE jeggings. Curse you all! The free shipping and free returns got me. (They're $29.99 right now if anyone wants to jump on the impulsive train with me. Toot toot!)
question for those that wear boots, what do you wear them with? Leggings? Skirts?
I just don't have any idea how to wear them since I'm plus size and don't wear leggings or skinny jeans...
I wear tall boots all winter long with dresses, skirts, and skinny pants/jeans. I am in a cold climate, so I pretty much wear tall boots everyday in the winter.
I rarely wear them with leggings, but that is because I don't wear leggings much. I am tall with a long torso and have a hard time finding tops long enough that my leggings don't look like pants.
PS: I think you can wear skinny jeans no matter what your size.

All aboard!
I also got a black maxi skirt. It was a lot like an old one I loved and had for years until it fell apart.
It will likely be summer here (fingers crossed) for 2 more months, but I already hit the Nordstrom sale and my style for fall is basically a uniform at this point, lol.
I live in flat boots, and have an addiction to them. Frye boots are my favorite. I also like the AE jeggings. I order online because I like to buy longs or x-longs depending. Oh and actually, AE jeggings are my favorite for boyfriend jeans - I order a size or two up and then roll the bottom. It's the most flattering boyfriend jean look for me. Think the look here on the far left:
I'm always on the hunt for tunic tops to wear with my leggings and jeans. If I'm honest, I basically live in zella leggings with a variety of tops/dresses and wear jeans/jeggings a few times a week.
One of my favorite tunic tops is a Target top by merona.. it's a sweatshirty material which means it's usually warm enough to wear by itself without a jacket in the fall/early winter in TN.
I bought this at the Nordstrom anniversary sale, which is out of my usual zone but I'm excited to wear it.
Other things I'm excited to wear this year (I bought them last year on sale but never wore them much so it's like they are new!)
a pair of black Joe's Jeans, and another pair of booties. They're a tan/taupe suede that look like this (the top right corner):
I have a few things on my list I'd like to buy for fall, so I'll come back and post those.
I'm jealous of all you ladies who can wear button downs. I always get the dreaded chest gap unless I buy them too big and have them tailored, and I'm too lazy for that!
I have officially given up on button downs. Split neck blouses are my go-to styles now.
heyjude - Leave ON pants alone. I don't even have that much ass, and the fit is horrible. Recently, I've gotten attached to Driftwood Denim. MyHabit runs specials daily and Driftwood typically pops up a few times a week. In fact, you can get several designer name brands from them for under $75. If you do Driftwood, you'll need your waist and inseam measurement.
ttt, from where are those short brown booties? I love that style.
So, I'm looking at Frye, and I'm realizing I need something a bit more tailored than the Veronicas I was all over last year. I don't love their more tailored looks, so I'm asking, where do you guys go for nice-looking boots, especially wide calf? I'm willing to possibly spend Frye money if they are truly quality shoes.
Nordstrom anniversary sale! Both of them are actually. The brown ones are Pikolinos.
I want fryes. I don't want to spend the money for them.
Are boots really still that trendy?
definitely. Boots are never not trendy. I got my first pair, a cheapy pair, over 10 years ago-- that's how long boots have been major. Also, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale was booooooots ALL THE BOOTS. They've upped the ante a bit because the new trend is over the knee.
Also, I'm with AH, but for different reasons. We get exactly 3 months of warm weather in this godforsaken state. Do NOT make me think about fall until we have our first 60 degree day. Which had better not be until mid-September.
Then I will be all about the chunky Irish sweaters, wool skirts and boots I am going to be pulling out of my closet.

I recommend Duo Boots, because they are tailored to your calf width. They are pricey but great quality. I have also looked at widewidths.com but have never purchased boots from there.... they have different categories of calf width.
voodoo - I don't trust your opinion about boots to be unbiased.
lol! I'm not a boot fiend, honestly and despite all recent gluttonous behaviors. I hadn't bought a pair in a couple years, even! At least 2 years. I can be trusted! (angel)
I'm just hoping to fit in anything this fall. Plus-sized maternity clothes will not be an easy find.
So basically covered? I'll just wear a lot of black and hope my new make up will keep people looking at my face, ha!
I had a lot of luck with Motherhood Maternity. I bought some staples: Skinny jeans, grey pants that were kind of a cross between casual and more serious, black work pants. Then I jazzed it up with tops. When are you due?
What are the thoughts on knee high socks as a transition from summer to fall, before tights become necessary? Seems like the 90s are back full force - hello Clueless! I've seen the look done really well, but I've also seen it done very, very poorly.

My rule is if you wore the first time around, you can't wear it the second!
heyjude I didn't do it the first time around, but I'm not sure about trying it the second time around either. I like the look, but I can't quite figure out how to look mature while doing it.
Also, have you seen the patchwork jeans trend (in particular with plaid) and that flared (maybe even super flared) jeans are coming back? I am on the no side of the fence right now until I see it more out and about.
I love knee highs. I want some to go with boots. I LOVE this look:
I do this look all the time in the fall and winter, with and without tights. The trend seems to be moving toward putting on some oxfords or flats with the socks, rather than boots.

Were your peers doing it though?
I think there is no way to make the look work for a grownup anyway because its point is to mimic the schoolgirl look.
