I'm reading Shrouds of Holly to finish the Pennyfoot Hotel mystery series. I know and like the characters, but I'm only as far as Chapter 2, so I really can't say very much about how I'm enjoying the book yet.
QOTW: I went through a phase when I was determined to read every book that people think you should read, and most of those were classics, but after I read Jane Eyre and hated it, I gave up on the project. But the goal of the project was never specifically to read the books I missed out on in school.
I'm reading War Brides by Helen Bryan. So far I'm enjoying it- I'm 1/4 way through. It's # 44 for the year.
QOTW: Hmm, nope I don't think so. Most of the books in school were classics and I don't usually enjoy reading classics, TBH. I also can't remember what the other books were when we had a choice between books, so maybe I've read some? I don't know.
I'm starting either Gemini by Carol Cassella or Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. I finished Oryx and Crake earlier this week -- looking forward to discussion on that one!
QOTW: I've re-read a few of the books I liked in HS, but I haven't read many new classics since then.
I just started Come Home by Lisa Scottoline. Hard to say if I'll like it yet.
I seemed to be in classes that read slightly different books than the other classes, so there were a few I missed. I did go back in my late 20's and read a few classics because I figured I should, but I don't think many were Ones I missed the first time around.. At the time I covered a lot of Steinbeck.
I just finished Paper Towns last night. I really liked the first part and the last part but I can't say I liked the middle part. I think I just kind of didn't care about one of the main characters.
QOTW: funny you should ask this question because I just downloaded To Kill a Mockingbird and that's next on my list. There's a decent gap on my classic literature reading so I thought I'd start filling it in.
Still reading the Guns of August, but I had taken a break to read Paper Towns and Labor Day, which were quick reads. So now, back to WWI.
Yeah, I read classics a lot, including things on the MLA 100 books of the 20th century. Not necessarily things that were assigned that I didn't read, but sometimes books it seems everyone else had to read.
I am still reading The Golem & the Jinni - I do like it, just not finding a lot of time to read right now!
QOTW: My book club has chosen some classics that I had never read: Rebecca (ok), To Kill a Mockingbird (liked), Pride & Prejudice (really didn't like). I am happy they were chosen as it "forced" me to read them when I wouldn't have on my own.
I'm currently reading All The Light We Cannot See. I think I like it, I just haven't had much time to get into it yet.
I'm seeing a lot of good reviews for Big Little Lies, so I'm thinking about reading that next. I did not love The Husband's Secret, so I'm hoping this one will be better.
QOTW: I occasionally read some of the required reading books that I didn't read before and I also like to re-read some that I maybe didn't appreciate the first time. I don't think I ever read Watership Down in school, but I love that book now.

I'm still listening to the audiobook version of this one, but I have a bad feeling I'm not going to finish it before it's due back to the library. I like it, but I think I need to borrow shorter books for listening.
I'm reading I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings for the first time. I'm loving it. She has such a way with words.
I'm also trying to decide if I'm going to re-read Oryx and Crake again for before book club or trust to memory since I've read it several times. I can't wait to discuss it.
QOTW: I was a voracious reader in high school so I skipped very few required books. I have gone back and re-read a lot of the ones I read then and enjoyed, but I haven't managed to pick back up on Light in August or The Canterbury Tales. I have too many other things I'd rather read.

I'm reading The Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagan. It's interesting and very well written. It's taking me forever because I'm not exactly in the mood for non fiction at the moment so I'm alternating it with other reads. Also re-reading The Book Thief because I listened on audio the first time around. I want to watch the movie afterwards. It's one of my favorite books. I'm listening to A is for Alibi by Sue Grafton. Also a re-read. I saw my library put this series out on audio and remember liking this way back when. I enjoy mysteries on audio so thought I'd work through this series. The story is OK but I'm finding the narrator a bit annoying. Not sure if I'll continue. I'm also reading The Secret Garden by Kate Morton. I volunteer read to a vision impaired elderly woman and it's only every two weeks, so this has been taking us forever. I love this book. It would be a perfect curl up by the fire, unplug the phone and read until you're finished book. We have 100 pages left so I can't wait to find out what happens. QOTW: Absolutely. Also rereading some that I may not have appreciated back then. Next up on my classics is a listen to Of Mice and Men, read by Gary Sinise. In remember loving the book but the details are fuzzy. Sent from my XT1080 using proboards
I'm on chapter three of Morning Glory by Sarah Jio. I'm also on chapter three of HP and the SS which is a reread for me. They are #29 and 30 for the year.
QOTW: Yes. I have read a lot of books that were not required (but should have been). My favorite was Pride and Prejudice.
Outlander. I was told it takes awhile to get going, and it did, but I seem to have reached the point where it gets good.
Me too, and I'm so irritated with myself! I meant to just read the first book, but I forgot that one doesn't end with her going back. So then I read the second one, but that one is a cliff hanger and of course I had to read on to where she reunites with Jamie. I tore through four hundred pages without even noticing, and now I feel like I have to finish this one. I'm pretty sure it's a cliffhanger, too. I have so many books on my to read list! Gah!

I finished last night and couldn't decide whether to start the next one, so I looked up the summary for DiA, and I was like, "huh?" And now you're telling me I'm about to get sucked into reading the rest of the series, lol.
I will probably keep going as there's nothing else calling to me on my to-read list. But I think this is why I resisted reading it in the first place. I knew I would lose months of my life

Your post made me chuckle. It seems there are so many series written this way these days! I am trying to mix my series so I don't get so caught up.
Me too. I was never required to read it in school.
Same here! When I finally read it, several years after graduating, I just bawled. It's one of my top 3 favorites ever.
QOTW: I love the classics! We never read many of them in high school. Honestly, I don't think I would have appreciated them the way I do now. I always browse the required reading tables set up in B&N. The first one I read as an adult was Wuthering Heights, and I really enjoyed it. I've read quite a few since, but there are many more on my list still.
Currently, I'm still reading Immortal Life of HeLa. I read slowly, but I hope to finish it this week.
