I read this article earlier. I'm interested to hear more details from the investigation.
"In a news conference Sunday morning, Belmar, the county police chief, said the Ferguson officer had an encounter with two “individuals” about noon Saturday and that Brown pushed the officer back into his car and “assaulted” him in the vehicle.
Belmar said one shot was fired by the officer’s gun inside the car during the struggle, hitting no one, and that the officer then fired multiple times as Brown ran away. Brown fell dead in the street. Belmar said the crime scene covered a distance of just 35 feet.
Belmar did not describe the reason for the initial contact, nor indicate whether police think the shooting was justified. He also did not provide any details about the person who had been with Brown."

I just started shit on FB with someone from there expressing how they need to stop this because it won't bring him back and her prayers are with her hometown. No prayers for the family. Ok then.
I'm pissed that Twitter is the only news source on this right now. Why isn't this being covered. Twitter has videos of police with dogs across from peaceful protesters. Everybody isn't looting. The family is asking for a peaceful protest.
I'm upset this isn't national news. I'm upset another unarmed black teen was killed and a town is burning because of it and nobody on CNN can take the time to cover it.

I'm upset that store owners and townspeople are being considered the real victims here thus far.
Twitter rumors are that the media has been blacked out in the area. Local news does not seem to be live anymore, the live reports are a few blocks away. Also there are rumors the MO National Guard has been deployed.

The only reason I had heard about it (besides this board) is bc my college roommate is black and from st Louis. Maybe the coverage will Pick up.
I have family in the St. Louis area, they are reporting that Dir of Communication for Charlie Dooley (the County Executive) just said the National Guard had NOT been called in and that is just a rumor.
I am really disturbed by this (all too common) event. I am even more disturbed by the lack of news coverage--both of the shooting and community response.

Are they not victims, though?
I don't know what happened with the kid who was shot. None of us do. Both of the accounts seem pretty implausible. I'm waiting for more information before making a judgment, but clearly many people are not. It's more satisfying to just jump to a "the cops are evil killers who randomly go around shooting black kids" or "obviously he had to have attacked the cop." And look what results from that.

I think the point here is the first reaction telling people to stop acting up instead of addressing the issue with the dead child is what is making her itch. It certainly is making me feel some type of way. We don't know what exactly happened however I read where a witness said his hands were up and he was unarmed when he was shot in the face. Seeing as the shooting of black men , without fear of repercussions, is pretty common yeah I am going to jump to that conclusion here. I would love for nothing more than to eat my hat here.
The radio host in my city is crying on air while discussing. I seriously get ready thinkingng about it. I'm really tired of it. It makes me nervous for my brother, husband, and my friends raising sons. We are constantly teaching our men to be "non- threatening". Look down, say sir, let all officers you know you are unarmed, don't walk in groups, etc.
These are conversations that black parents have with their kids, hell this is a conversation I've had with my black male students. I work with students with behavior problems and they have issues with authority. I always, always, ALWAYS remind them and tell them how their looks and actions *may* be perceived and that they need to be extra cautious. And the parents are so thankful that I'm trying to keep their kids safe.
They are talking about it on my local radio station as well. I would also like to say I don't want to bash police in general because I have had great experiences with my local police however it appears as if there is an issue in St Louis( and other places) that need to be addressed. My mind immediately goes to the young man who was killed in California in-front of everyone.

I have a lot of "Glad I'm not in Ferguson right now" and "Hey guys, we're with ya, but this isn't the way to show your anger" in my news feed. I'm pleasantly surprised. I thought I'd run in to some uglies.

What is the way? Not that I am advocating rioting but what is the way to facilitate change here? Pretty sure there were peaceful protests regarding Trayvon and Zimmerman still got off.

What Malcolm X said.
Eta: and they are not victims of scary black looters, which is the image that pisses me off. They are more victims of a racist and unjust society.

Yup. Is the way through the political process? Is it through the legal system? lofl at both ideas.

There is literally nothing about this situation from any angle that isn't horrible and heartbreaking.
I do think social media has been the good bad and ugly of it too... the eye witness accounts saturday were so, so divergent from what the police / media then reported, it really inflamed people. And rumors are running rampant on Twitter as well, which has fueled the anger and protests. There's so much context and history here. I don't have any other words at the moment
This is likely late, but it's made news here in Boston.
Terribly sad.
I don't see how they can call it peaceful protests when people are looting stores for clothes, hair extensions, and stealing ATM's. Takes away from the message, turns it into a circus. Poor family just terrible.

yeah I don't know. If someone shot my unarmed daughter or well, any unarmed family member, I'd be burning shit down too.
My pleasant surprise was that I didn't read any racist remarks in my newsfeed. I have hidden or defriended most, but not all of the rednecks in my life. LOL
It's just such a sad situation all around. I hope they do bring in an outside agency, such as the FBI, to investigate and bring justice.
