Our two local chains (Kindercare and another new one that just opened) were $300 something per week when I last called. MIL has offered us free childcare though (she's run an in home since H was a baby).
We live in HCOL so for some reason I have the number $1,800/month in my head, hoping that's the max and we'll actually be able to find something more affordable. DH works for a university and they have low cost on site daycare, but I don't know the actual cost or anything else about it really. Plus both our parents live nearby and my mom is SAH so I'm also partially hoping she'll want to help, although I'd hate to burn her out. Either way it's going to be just another huge adjustment to our lives.
I'm also in an HCOL area (Northern NJ) and it costs around $1400 now for the infant room at my daycare. $1800 might be if you were in NYC though.

I did research before having DS. Now I'm staying home so it won't apply, but I definitely recommend calling or emailing a few places to see what the range is so you can fit it into your budget.
I checked in with my neighborhood Kindercare and full time infant care is $555 a week :?. We'll probably have to go the in-home daycare route to keep it under $2k a month.
This! The on site daycare at my work (same building but not affiliated with work) is $2800 for full time infant daycare. Gross.
We paid for daycare for almost 5 years. We live in a moderate cost of living (almost lower). We used an accredited in home daycare and a center and paid about the same. Thankfully, as she got set the price would go down. We paid $150/month.
Yes, I looked into this before we started TTCing to make sure our finances were all in order. In our area it's $7-800 per month. Slightly less if you go with home daycare as opposed to a centre.
We are in a moderate COL area, but daycare here is not too pricey. Fortunately, if we ever have kids, my work is somewhat flexible in that I think I can work from home one day a week and then my mother is semi-retired so she can watch a child 1-2 days a week. In the winter my husband and I have different schedules, so his weekends are mon and tues, so that covers just about every day during the week. I think we will have between 1-3 days a week in daycare the rest of the time.
Believe me it's terrifying. HCOL daycare makes me want to puke.
Yep. DH made a career switch and will be a 1st year teacher this year. Our daycare expenses will likely be more than he brings home in a month
It's so bad. I don't know how people afford some of these places. DH is in the final rounds of interviews for a new job and I am like PLEASE get this job so we can afford daycare and still eat. Lol. I would love to use the one on my work campus for obvious reasons but it's a bright horizons and those are $$$.
