My DH is refinishing a Craigslist buffet we have had for several years to better match our table and china hutch. I'm not sure what do with these handles.
Should I try and clean them up/paint them/or just look for new ones to fit the holes?
We rent so we don't have a specific finish in the room and our current kitchen cabinets don't have handles.

I think they're pretty. Unless you're going for a more modern look, I would just lightly spray-paint with a metallic finish if you want a different color. I did that to some pulls and they came out great.

Oh, that is beautiful! I'd try to clean them and make them shine. I am assuming he's trying to bring the piece back to how it looked in its heyday. I would do the same to the handles. Good find!
I wouldn't replace those. They're great. Shine them up if you can. I've put car wax over brass hardware after I've polished it to keep it from tarnishing longer.

He's stripping/sanding and will restain and seal it. The finish on the top was pealing. We will stain it a little lighter than it was so it matches closer. I paid $40 for this!! the people were moving and just wanted it moved out since it's heavy. They listed for $50 and I offered $40 just to see. We've had it 3 years and it survived 2 moves so far.

As I was reading the posts, I was thinking the same thing as dr. girlfriend above... What kind of hardware is on the china hutch? I would try to find something that is similar. If not something new, then paint it to match (ie: brass, ORB, silver, etc).
Leave them! They are beautiful as they are please don't spray paint them! Everything doesn't have to be matchy matchy in a room; It's ok if they don't match the hardware on other pieces in the room.
I was in your boat four years ago while refinishing a dresser. I brought one into my local hardware store and asked the staff what they would recommend for painting/cleaning. The consensus was that I should do nothing! And I'm really glad I took their advice. I've grown to love the patina.
This. I'd leave them "as is".
If you must "clean" them, you'd need to remove any laquer already on them first.

I'm not sure what's on them but Goo Gone is like magic in our house. It removes just about everything. We buy it from the Target dollar spot and hide bottles around the house.
