Our other two babies are crying at the bedroom door - can't let them sleep in here with the window open. Maybe he will hear them and recognize this as home.
This is how we found our lost cat ... our other cat started crying at the window because she was right outside, otherwise I never would've gotten up to see why he was crying. So maybe they'll alert you when their buddy returns.

Nothing this morning, guys. My cat detective should be emailing me back today with her custom tips and approach. Her book says his personality type often takes 7-14 days to break cover. Not even close to giving up hope.
Something that's worked for me is shaking the cat food container outside (we keep it in a bin). Or if there's another noise that your cat would associate with food.

My mom had an indoor cat go missing outside for about a week. She eventually came back but it was stressful waiting/trying to find her. I hope your kitty comes home soon.

Did you find out whether or not the humane society had chipped your animal?
Most have chipped all animals that come through for the last 15 years or so. Even if you never registered your cat, the chip information should still be in your adoption paperwork. You can contact the facility and register the cat in your name after the fact.
If you do not have the paperwork, contact your vet. Many times, they have your chip information on file and can give you the information as to where to register your cat.
This way, if it shows up somewhere they can track you down too. If someone shows up at the vet with a lost kitty, they can look for you. If the cat shows up at the animal shelter, they would likely scan for a chip too.
This gives you another direction of getting your cat back.

mich1 I have left a message at the shelter where he was adopted and I'm waiting to hear back.
I seriously doubt they chipped him, but it's definitely worth asking about. It's a long story, but the shelter had some really shady stuff that went down shortly after we adopted him. We were unaware of it while adopting, and thankfully they seem to have improved greatly under new management since then.
One of my favorite coworkers just told me, "it may be time to face reality." I know she means well, but RAGE.
I am so not there yet.
Reality is that your cat is missing. That is the only known reality right now. And it seems to me that you're facing it in a totally serious and kick-ass way!

For those of you still following, no news today.
I'm following the cat detective's advice and she says the average for a skittish indoor cat is 10 days (sometimes up to 14 days). Today is day 6. She has helped us refine our techniques and we are just trying to stay positive and focused at this point.
I shared the thread with DH last night and it helped lift his spirits. Thanks again for all the support.
I still keep hoping you find your kitty. Heck, it took two days for us to find out skittish cat INSIDE the house when we first moved here. She was hiding inside a basement wall. Keeping positive thoughts for you!

Is it possible she is trapped in the house somewhere? Attic, basement, closet, dresser drawer, utility room?
It's not impossible, and we have searched inch by inch several time. Our cat detective says there is a much higher probability of him hunkering down in a nearby yard based on the poop and grass vomit we found outside.

Finding evidence that he is close sounds promising!
All of us crazy cat ladies are here for you! I keep clicking in for Kitty Spunky Search Updates. I truly would be a cat mom who hires a physic, a voodoo priestess, a mercenary or whatever it took to find my kitty too.
My aunt used an "animal communicator" to find her missing cat. Whatever works, right? Hope you get your kitty back soon!

My cat was missing once when I lived in my old condo. We searched for hours. I searched everywhere. I thought that she must have jumped from the balcony or ridden the elevator to get out... Until I heard her meowing. I tore apart every closet again. I accused my neighbors of stealing her. I finally found her inside of a dresser drawer wrapped up inside of the clothes in the drawer.
I keep checking back to see if you've found your kitty
If it helps, the people who's cat I used to pet sit for, their cat got out and didn't come back for three months. She got out in December and we had some cold, frigid weather in Jan and Feb, so we were all sure she was gone. But, no, she walked right into someone else's house and they were caring for her, until a mutual friend made the connection, and she was returned to her owners. Amazing
My very timid, indoor only cat got out a few years ago and was gone for a week. Every night we went out looking for her, put up flyers, and checked with all the local shelters. What eventually worked was renting a cat trap and filling it with her favorite wet foods and tuna. We caught her the first night we tried it!

7costanza we have used traps for the past 4 nights. Tonight will be night 7 so we are getting into the range where he may be hungry enough to come out of hiding and into the trap.

Are you leaving food out for him during the day? We were advised not to do that so she would get hungry and the trap would be more likely to work. I'm sending you so many vibes that your cat comes home or is trapped tonight!
