I really hope you find him soon. I posted last week that it once took two weeks for our cat to come home. I really hope you find him. All my good thoughts.
Are you leaving food out for him during the day? We were advised not to do that so she would get hungry and the trap would be more likely to work. I'm sending you so many vibes that your cat comes home or is trapped tonight!
Thank you! We did the first couple of days, before consulting the cat detective. She told us not to for the same reasons you gave.

Thank you! I know this can just take time and I'm really trying to be patient.
I'm in north Texas. If there's anything I can do to help, please tell me. I don't have kids and so my kitties (even when the grey one is quite evil) are my babies. I hope you're reunited soon!

Okay, so we are going door to door asking about our cat and trying to get permission to search backyards and under sheds. Most are very cooperative, but one high-probability house won't answer the door.
Here is what I know: They live behind us and one over. They have at least two daschunds, and lots of good hiding places in their backyard. The man uses very harsh tones with his dogs to get them to come inside.
We have knocked a few times and seemingly no one is ever home and the lights are always off. Today, we heard the man yelling at his dogs and immediately went over and knocked. No answer.
Is there anything else you would do? How many times can we go over there before it is considered harassment? (joking, but seriously...)

If they won't answer the door even when you know they are home, what about leaving a note letting them know why you stopped by and give your email/phone number? Maybe they are just not door answerers? Hopefully they'd respond to that or atleast answer the door if you went back again the next day.
Fingers crossed that your cat makes it back home soon.

heythere we left a note on Monday, still nothing. Sorry, I should have mentioned that.
I just talked to their next door neighbor and she knows them. She said she will try to contact them and see if they will let us come over. Fingers crossed.

Nuts.
I hope the next door neighbor can help out. That sounds promising.

Neighbor B called the wife. Wife says she is not home but we can try again later. Husband is clearly home now because he is out yelling at the dogs.
Wife also said our cat can't be under their shed because it sits directly on the ground. So I don't expect they will ever let us over, but at least that means there is less probability of our cat hiding out over there.

You guys! I think someone may have spotted our cat last night!!
I'm trying (and failing) to keep from getting too excited. Last night, we got a call saying someone saw him. We went to look, but he was already gone. We mentally brushed it off because there is an indoor/outdoor cat that looks almost identical to ours living very near where the neighbor spotted ours.
We just talked to the other cat owner and her cat was inside all night last night! Based on the time, she said it was 100% not her cat. The only thing giving us pause is that the neighbor said our cat was just chilling under a car, then ran into some bushes to hide. Chilling under a car doesn't fit with his profile, and it was also about 5 houses down (cat detective said within 3 houses is typical).
Fingers and toes crossed that it really was him, and he is trying to make his way home.

I belong to a local missing pet group on FB, and someone posted today that her cat came home after being missing for a little over a month. Hope you get your baby home tonight!

I hope he's home soon. I came to share a success story. They just posted on my neighborhood Facebook that a neighbor was reunited with his kitty after 12 days!!

Do you know anyone with a wildlife camera you could borrow? My FIL has a cheap one he sets up at his lake house to see what wildlife visits the backyard over night. Then at least you could see if he is visiting at night.

We have had one set up for several nights, with no action. We are supposed to keep it in the same place for 48 hours, then move somewhere else if we don't see anything by then. It's at a neighbor's house tonight. Have I mentioned that most of my neighbors are seriously the best?

It's day 13. I'm still here, still looking for my cat non-stop. Flyers, traps, door to door, you name it and we are doing it all.the.time. We haven't seen any clues or had any other potential sightings since the one last Friday. We are mentally exhausted from the constant worrying and searching.
Our house is a disaster, we don't have clean clothes, my work is suffering, I'm not eating or sleeping enough, and I don't want to talk to friends, do anything fun, or do anything at all except be searching, or be at home in case he comes back.
I'm struggling to know what is healthy. I want to do all that I can and should do to find him. If he isn't found, I never want to look back on this time and think "what if I had just...." At the same time, we can't go on like this forever.
We are considering flying in a different pet detective (ours doesn't travel) to the tune of I don't even want to know how much...and at the same time, we are thinking of trying to scale things back some so we can get a little bit of normalcy.
I'm so sorry. I've been thinking a lot about your kitty and your situation. Still holding out hope! And I hope you're able to find a happy medium between feeling like you're doing what you can while staying afloat.

Some pet detectives can bring a dog with them to search for the scent of the cat. Just throwing that out there.... It could be an option.

The one we are thinking of flying in would bring her search dog. We have a phone meeting with her tonight to discuss. The main issue is that the scent trail is only there for 14 days, and we are on day 13. So she would mostly be doing a physical search.
