@tambcat Do you call E by her full name or did you all ever decide on a nickname (sorry if this is creepy, I lurk on ML-but who doesn't?)?
We're still calling her Elizabeth.
Sadly, the nn that wants to come out of my mouth most often is Lizzy, which is the one I had hoped to avoid. But my sister named her baby Lily, so that pretty much rules Lizzy out anyway, since they sound so similar.
It's a really long name. I was thinking last night that maybe I should have gone with Emily instead.
Elizabeth was our #1 girl name and we were going to go with Ellie as a nickname. Although Lizzie is cute it sounds terrible with our last name so we really wanted to avoid it. I really liked the full name too. We're having another boy so it's all a moot point.
@carmensandiego -- How is the continued adjustment to West Coast life going? Did you ever find a good hair guy?
Yes I did! I got the best haircut of my life in April. I paid out the nose for it but it was well worth it and my hair has never looked better. I'm really glad carrotsmakemefat talked me into the Deva cut. I haven't had to have another cut since and I don't think I will for several more months because I'm so happy with it.
I've made some friends and am feeling more settled. I think LA is a much better fit for me culture wise than Atlanta was. I still miss many things about ATL--especially my friends and family--but things are really going great here. Thanks for asking!!
Work itself was fine. I can do my job, that much gives me some peace.
DD on the other hand…I left at 8:30 and saw her again at 4pm. In that span of time she slept only an hour 45 minutes and ate only 3.5 oz of BM/F. Since then she has eaten more but still has only slept another hour total. Now she is super cranky and I am super stressed.
Wednesday night I have to go away over night for work. She still nurses to sleep. I know it is one night and DH will make due but I am still not happy.
Which brings me to my question for anyone who had a baby that fed every 2 hours at night. We plan on Febering in (EXACTLY) 3 weeks. But at night she feeds every 2 hours and falls asleep feeding. Should I work on spacing out those feedings and THEN sleep train her or do both at the same time? I have no problem with her waking up to feed, I just don't see how we can do that and train her to fall asleep on her own since at night she doesn't really wake up entirely. I figure that falling asleep when nursing is the exact opposite of what sleep training is supposed to achieve.
She is in the basement with DH fussing. FML. I need this 19week wonderweek/4MWF/whatever is going on to be over.
No advice, just hugs! Sorry it was a stressful day. I'm sure E and your H will find their groove soon! (((rugbywife)))
Thanks. DH just managed to get her down. The key is movement, unless I am feeding her she wants to be moving when she falls asleep - and the swing no longer works.
Jalapeñomel , did you pass your teaching exam? Are you working with students yet?
Yes, by a lot! I start work on the 2nd of September, but kids don't come in until the 4th. I really had high hopes to start planning my classes today, but when I sat down to do lesson plans, I got so overwhelmed by the thought of planning a class that isn't in my content area (earth science), I got overwhelmed and sidetracked on the internet.
ssmjlm -- I'm not sure if I saw an update but did you pursue EI?
We go Wednesday for the initial eval. DH and I are both in agreement that unless the SLP thinks there's is something majorly wrong we aren't going to pursue weekly appointments at this time.
Just tonight E said night night and tried to say book. She's talking more and more each week, which is why I don't think there is an issue.

L is the same way (although he never slept in the swing ). I can't nurse him to sleep anymore because he wants to comfort suck and wakes as soon as I unlatch him. He likes to be bounced vigorously but that was hurting my arms (he's 17 pounds!) so now I get him in his jammies and sleep suit, nurse him, then put him in the Ergo. We bounce around for awhile until he is asleep, then I carefully transfer him to the ARC.

17 pounds??? E is only 12.8!!! Hence why I am worried about how little she eats.
Hey, November/December 2013 moms: how are you feeling with babies that are now nearly 2/3 or 3/4 of a year old?! How are your babies doing? Crawling? Teeth?
Please tag anyone else I am currently blanking on. I have an 8-month-old boycotting her nap right now, so my brain is fried!
I am a December mom, although as close to January as possible. My kid started army crawling this weekend. It's so cute, but so much more stressful than with my daughter, as now that we have three year old toys everywhere. He has two teeth that are great at mashing puffs. He has been sleeping crappy the past week or so. I hope he goes back to his one wakeup or, maybe, sleep through the night soon. He is a good baby though.

Yes but that is unofficial (I weighed myself with and without him). We go to the doctor for 4 month appointment tomorrow and will get the official number then. He's chunked up quite a bit lately.
I'm sorry you're stressed but I'm sure she'll figure it out and you'll all get into a routine soon. She'll eat and sleep, he'll enjoy his time with his daughter, and you'll kick butt at your job. You've got this!
I can't remember who besides @marshmallows got new jobs recently. How are they going?
I started at a new law firm on July 21. I like the work so much better, but the transition has been hard. Learning to work with new personalities and proving myself while dealing with sleep deprivation, a dying grandmother and daycare closures has been hard. I hope my personal life slows down, because I really want to succeed here.
Thanks for asking, bananapancakes. I don't know if you saw my post on Friday -- things are getting better. It's still hard. He was sick on Friday so I had to stay home with him most of the day. But I noticed this weekend that he's crawling ALL around the house...not just from one room to the next, but all over, and he pulls his toys right off the shelf to play with them- like they do at daycare, lol! I'm feeling more comfortable, but the drop-offs are still terrible. Today, he cried and crawled toward me as I left.
But he napped great there today (in the crib ), an hour in the morning and 2.5 hrs in the afternoon, so I think that's a sign that he's getting more comfortable.
swizz I just want to say I'm sorry for whatever is going on. I totally missed that you were going through that.
And back to all the moms of the 7/8/9 mo group - some of you say your kids are talking with mama, dada, baba. A definitely is doing that but are you really counting it as "words?" I really think it's mostly babble. She says all of that but not in context usually. Well, at least, it isn't like she is calling for us - she just babbles.
I don't count her sounds as words-- she repeats certain patterns, but not in any consistent kind of way. She says the "ma" sound a lot, so sometimes I will ask her who I am, and if she happens to say "ma ma ma ma ma" after, I will pretend she is a genius. Of course, she says that in response to every question (or no question), so it's all about framing the question correctly .
I am am wondering how I will know when she actually says her first word and means it, but I figure I will figure it out somehow.

Awww thanks for the shout out!
No teeth but I think I see some buds. No crawling or sitting but we do have scooting and rolling. Lots of "swimming" when she's on her tummy. All of my in-laws side and others who have observed her the past few weeks say she is definitely a very active baby, always needing to move or swim or explore stuff (though she was like this from the beginning busting out of the swaddle after birth on her way to the NICU). I've had to "babyproof" the living room which for now means hide all the wires behind rolled up comforters. Naps are all over the place. It feels like she sleeps so little. Sometimes she doesn't go to sleep until 10 and then is up and ready to go at 8 am with 1 MOTN wakeup and lame 30 minute naps during the day. I am definitely fried on the days she decides she's too cool for naps and sleep. Problem is she's so darn happy and energetic all the time.
I'm behind on feeding her solids. So far we've done banana and applesauce. I tried to make carrots but I didn't do such a good job. She's finally crossed 15 lbs and fits in her Tula better now.
I'm still trying to get her to hold her bottle and feed herself. She grabs the bottle and lowers her head onto the nipple. She doesn't understand you have to flip the bottle over and hold it. I need to get her a sippy cup and let her play with that instead.
But I feel like I love it. It's so much fun and I look forward to whatever is next.
DS did the same thing with mama and said it all the time for a while, and now NOPE. He's never said dada.
DS has eczema on his arm but I didn't connect that it could be food related. We take him to the Dr. next Friday so hopefully we'll figure it out. I think he needs allergy testing too. And he has vomited like 5 different times after eating solids, so that's fun. Not! :?
niq I kinda started a new job last week, though I'm sure you weren't referring to me lol
I am currently 3 days/week in more of a support role but officially accepted the team lead position for my department. I start full-time after Labor Day. My supervisor (who has been overseeing the department in the absence of a team lead) has started to pass things on to me and I have been participating in interviews for my department. The pay is almost double for 2 more days plus bonuses, so I'm pretty happy.

How has your search been going?
I meant everybody! I seriously have lost track of all the new job AWing, especially since I've been buried by work stuff lately.
I got my first nibble -- I have an in person pre-screen next Thursday. And I went to an open house for another company that's doing a lot of hiring, so I'll probably hear from them soon. Those two plus BigCo are my three big options now. I'm trying to find other places to work that are the right of mix of job interest, shorter commute, and compensation, but these three seem to be the most obvious choices.
