Where do you recommend? I live in Western NY and would like to do a long weekend (Thurs-Mon) Labor Day weekend. Somewhere with a Lake Placid-ish feel where we can drink good beer or wine, lounge, bike, maybe hike, etc. And, we are on a budget.
1000 Islands? Old Forge, NY? Grand Canyon, PA? Ithaca, NY?
My family has been going to the 1000 Islands for years. I haven't been in some time myself but my mom just went with her brothers in June. They generally stay around the Alexandria Bay area. It's really pretty and very quiet.
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain
Sorry #bullygirl979, friggin' work getting in the way.
We like many places along the American and Canadian sides. Do you have a passport?
Alexandria Bay, NY has lots of good food, wineries, castles to explore, boats, boats, boats, lots of bars. Clayton, NY, same, but a little more cultured Both are a 3-4 hour drive from Western, NY
Hiking can be found in either place on the mainland and there are many islands to hike and explore. No mountains though, flat, flat, flat.
